Are they different? And I really need all the help I can get.

Joko Beck says, spiritual maturity.

We eventually stopped being so self-centered.

I just love when people say stuff like this out loud.

Stop being so self-centered.

Then Joko Beck, don't get codependent on me.

She says, this is not about becoming other-centered.

And I was reading Pema Chodron and Suzuki Roshi and Thich Nhat Hanh.

And Charlotte Joko Beck, and they'd all say these things that I thought were like, that's kind of seems kind of true to me.

It speaks to my values and it's very beautiful.

And then they would all say, you can read about this as much as you want, but you'll never understand until you actually practice for yourself.

I didn't even have an intellectual understanding of what any of it meant.

And when I went to Tassajara, I had really only, I think, read two books, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind and, uh, Joko Beck's book, Every Day Zen, I think it was, or Nothing Special.

And, um, yeah, I, I feel like intellectual study can be helpful, but as we all know, this is where we're studying.

Right? We're looking, we're feeling.

Yeah.

You know, Joko-- Did you know Joko Beck at all?

No. Mm-mm.

This leads right into a whole precepts study we could do about the Buddhist precepts and the guidelines for ethical behavior.

One of my friends who's a Zen teacher in Portland says about following the precepts it's not so much like 10 commandments and you should and shouldn't and or you're a bad person he's like if i don't follow these things i suffer and other people do too that's all i found that to be true So Joko Beck in her book, Nothing Special, writes this.

We are rather like whirlpools in the river of life.

I was fortunate to be at the memorial for the great, um, American Zen teacher Joko Beck.

Mm.

And her family members said, um, at the, the last day or so of her life, her kids were around her, of course, and they were fighting.

And, uh, that's, that's what I worry about with this, um, with this game on Saturday.

Um, I'm hoping that one of Harver-Bellis and Charlotte Beck is playing because if it's, uh, Wood and Stevens, I do, I do worry about how we're gonna deal with, um, with the obvious threat that Millwall provide.
