You know, they're so close in proximity timeline-wise to the studio session that they're essentially mostly identical, 'cause the band is the same in the studio as it is live.

You know, it's James Burton, Charlie Hodge, John Wilkinson-

It didn't happen before, it didn't happen after, except for the explicit times with Red West and Charlie Hodge that Elvis explicitly was involved in either giving the concept of a title or being genuinely involved in writing a song, which were-

Red West had known Elvis since high school.

Sonny West, Joe Esposito, Charlie Hodge.

These were men who had spent years of their lives in service to one person.

They saw everything.

Charlie McCoy is there on harmonica.

And, uh, and naturally Charlie Hodge is there [laughs] helping out Elvis any way he can.

Of course.

Yeah.

Mm.

But it was actually a song that he'd known and sung privately for years.

Um, so we have two informal home performances that survived from June 1966, recorded in Bel Air, and we have Charlie Hodge on piano and vocals, uh, Red West and others joining in, and obviously Elvis on vocals as well.

So, w- uh, one of these versions, the second take, was released in 1999 on the home recordings, and the first take was released on In a Private Moment.
