One of the clergymen, William Blackstone, with his wife, went to Shawmut, Boston, Samuel Maverick and his wife to Winnacimmit, Chelsea, and the Walfords to Mishawum, Charlestown.

Probably all these people were Anglicans.

Some later became freemen of the Massachusetts colony.

The official organization was remodeled so that only those desiring to remove should be in control, and on March 29, 1630, the company with its charter, accompanied by a considerable number of prospective colonists, set sail from Cowes near the Isle of Wight in four vessels, the Arabella, the Talbot, the Ambrose, and the Jewel, the remaining passengers following in seven other vessels a week or two later.

The voyages of the vessels were long, none less than nine weeks by way of the Azores and the Maine coast, and the distressed Puritans, 700 altogether, scurvy-stricken and reduced in numbers by many deaths, did not reach Salem until June and July.

Hence they moved on to Charlestown, set up their tents on the slope of the hill, and on the 23rd of August held the first official meeting of the company on American soil.

But finding no running water in the place and still pursued by sickness and death, they again removed, this time to Boston, where they built houses against the winter.

Her mother, Elizabeth Quincy, was the granddaughter of the Reverend John Norton, long the pastor of a church of the same denomination in the neighboring town of Hingham, and the nephew of John Norton, well known in the annals of the colony.

Her maternal grandfather, John Quincy, was the grandson of Thomas Shepard, minister of Charlestown, distinguished in his day, and the son of the more distinguished Thomas Shepard of Cambridge, whose name still lives in one of the churches of that town.

These are persons whose merits may be found fully recorded in the pages of Mather and of Neal.

They were among the most noted of the most reputed class of their day.

But as to the movements of this town, perhaps you may not hear them from any other person.

In consequence of the powder being taken from Charlestown, a general alarm spread through many towns and was caught pretty soon here.

The report took here on Friday, and on Sunday, a soldier was seen lurking about the common, supposed to be a spy, but most likely a deserter.

This was a warning to the surrounding countryside that the king's men were coming by water and not by land.

Revere then boarded a small boat to get to Charlestown.

Once on land in Charlestown, Paul Revere would mount his horse and begin his famous ride.

His path would take him to Medford, then to Menotomy, and then onward to Lexington where he would arrive just before midnight.

When he got there, he would yell, the regulars are coming out, and within minutes the small sleepy town came to life.

Indeed, an ambush had been set up at Harvard Square.

He said to his friend, if the British march by land or sea from the town to-night, hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch of the North Church Tower as a signal light, one if by land and two if by sea, and I on the opposite shore will be, ready to ride and spread the alarm through every Middlesex village and farm, for the country folk to be up and to arms.

Then he said good night, and with muffled oar Silently rode to the Charlestown shore, Just as the moon rose over the bay, Where swinging wide at her moorings lay The Somerset, British man of war.

A phantom ship, with each mast and spar, Across the moon like a prison bar, And a huge black hulk that was magnified By its own reflection in the tide.

Meanwhile his friend, through alley and street, wanders and watches with eager ears till in the silence around him he hears the muster of men at the barrack door the sounds of arms and the tramp of feet and the measured tread of the grenadiers marching down to their boats on the shore then he climbed to the tower of the church up the wooden stairs with stealthy tread to the belfry chamber overhead and startled the pigeons from their porch on the somber rafters that round him made masses and moving shapes of shade, up the light ladder, slender and tall, to the highest window in the wall, where he paused to listen and look down, a moment on the roofs of the town, and the moonlight flowing over all.

I mean, I certainly know I used to teach a 6:30 AM yoga class at Charlestown Yoga.

I live in Boston.

Charlestown is one of the neighborhoods in Boston.

And it was pretty common for my 6:30 AM class on a Wednesday to have two people.

So it was no big whoop to me.
