Charles Prince

Well, our last piece this week is a post on X from Venky Ganesan of Menlo Ventures titled When the Music is Playing.

Venky opens with Chuck Prince's infamous 2007 line as the previous CEO of Citigroup, quote, as long as the music is playing.

You've got to get up and dance.

Obviously, there's a lot of different threads of how you can interpret this quote if you know how it all spun out for him.

Oh, for sure.

But the problem is, like, it's the, it's, it's the Chuck Prince line, right? From back in the f- the, the GFC, from the financial crisis.

As long as the music keeps playing, I keep dancing.

And I'm worried that it's going to have knock-on effects if it rolls over, because it always rolls over.

And then you have the promoters, and you have the hucksters, and you have all the industry officials telling you to stay in the game like Chuck Prince did in the summer of 07 to keep on dancing until the music stops.

But when the music stops, your head gets sliced off.

So...

But even Sandy had to leave eventually.

In 2003, he handed the CEO job to a loyal lawyer named Chuck Prince.

And in 2006, he retired as chairman.
