Charles J. Precourt

Long, but full of good stuff.

Eric Berger posted just now on the Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel call, member Charlie Precourt said the latest estimate for refuelings needed to support a starship landing on the moon is around 22 launches.

Elon said that's way too high.

Actual number will be more like six to eight.

He says, "Hey, Butch, some dude from NASA called you.

Uh, Charlie Precourt.

Why don't you call him back?"

Yeah.

[laughs]

Charlie Precourt was the chief of the astronaut office at the time, and I knew I had gotten selected.

And so what'd I do? I went in and I debriefed with my student for two hours [laughs] because that was the priority.

And, uh, then I got finished and I called Charlie Precourt, and he says, "Hey, Butch, what do you think about coming to Houston and working with us?" And I said, "Well, Charlie, I think I will take you up on that offer." [laughs]
