Charles Fort

And Reverend Fanthorpe is a really big figure in the Fortean world.

If you're not sure what I mean by Fortean, by the way, a guy called Charles Forte was a writer, an English writer, and he... tried to explore those things that didn't really fit in the normal boxes of science, things that fell outside of those boxes, and he was fascinated by them again, almost like walking into the fog and finding the mystery beyond the known.

And because of his name, Charles Fort, if something is slightly beyond or quirky or strange that we can't fully explain or don't have a set answer for yet... we can call it 14.

And so a lot of the subjects that I do on my channel are essentially 14.

Yes.

Charles Fort, one of my heroes.

I read those books as a child.

You know, the rains of frogs and fresh meat and coins and stones and fish and just everything.

But it's always been a mystery down there.

And of course, throughout history, you've got stories of sea monsters and strange things and Charles Fort's, the great Sargasso Sea, strange things happening.

And now we're even hearing about mysterious UFO underwater bases that are manufacturing plants, apparently for UFOs.

Oh, yes.

Well, the idea is that there's an area.

Or it's a mysterious.

That's what Charles Fort was getting at, is that there's a tear, a thin place to another dimension where things fall out of and come from.

The great Kentucky meat shower, things like that, weird stuff happening and coming to affect our reality and then disappearing.

The kind of, you know, difficulty he had with modern science and especially with the fact that it refused to recognize his beloved science.

spiritualism and Dex says you know could he have shared this this attitude with Charles Fort and did he know or anything about Charles Fort or did he would he have seen this connection to Charles Fort I literally have no idea how well known Charles Fort was in England or in Britain at the time But yet they were both writing at the same time in the 1920s.

And yet they both shared a bit of this idea, this attitude towards science.

Charles Fort, of course, you know, one of his books called The Book of the Damned.

And of course, by damned, he meant anything that science did not.

Dane to recognize and he had this attitude that scientists were of course close-minded I seem to recall him saying that science was a mutilated octopus that is and if its tentacles had not been cut off then they would feel their way into all sorts of unexpected and perhaps uncomfortable realities and I just like to read a tiny little bit from a chat I've been having with Justin Mullis who was on the old show a couple of times and is a when it comes to the history of monsters of all kinds.

And Justin goes on to say that Booz talks about the tremendous impact, this is interesting, that Conan Doyle's book, or his short story, The Horror of the Heights, had on Fortean speculation.

Forte's whole idea of we are property.

I mean, this is what Charles Fort called damned facts, you know, like these facts that don't fit into the stories.

And there's something about the sort of the world of high strangeness, if you really... work with that, you don't have to dismiss those things.

And I think the thing is that maybe someone lives a life where they have one or two or three of those experiences.

This is a gelatinous substance that's been reported falling from the sky for centuries.

Charles Fort covered this, often following meteor showers.

Legends from the 14th century describe similar blobs.

However, ancient legends don't account for the modern presence of specific human bacteria.

Psychic powers.

Charles Fort.

Ancient aliens.

And this is the book that inspired Erik von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods.

But as I said at the outset, yet again, on one hand, they're kind of suggesting alchemy could be real, guys.

But then in the next couple of paragraphs, it's, but what if by alchemy we actually mean this? So you kind of feel like, oh, there's a lot of different ideas at play here.

The next big character that comes up is that they then champion Charles Fort.
