Chandogya Upanishad

Um, it, it actually is-- I found it relatively simple and many things just come jumping out at you.

Like for instance, that Chandogya Upanishad, uh, has about forty-four percent of it doesn't look like Vedanta at all.

I mean, it just doesn't look like Vedanta.

It is Aranyaka and Brahmana material, uh, uh, which really means, uh, Aranyaka and Brahmana are sort of, well, in rough terms, exegetical of the Vedic, uh, uh, um, uh, tradition, uh, in, in the sense that they make sense of the, the, uh, larger and smaller rituals in very grand and exciting terms, actually.

And this form will never be seen again.

As Chandogya Upanishad says, all our relatives and ourselves will disappear, never to be seen again, gone forever.

Of the unreal, there's no permanence.

Of the unreal, there is no permanence.

This is all there in the Upanishads.

how we achieve the path of grace, the path of light, enlightenment, how we stay on the plane of enjoyment, the sattva path, the rajas path, the tamas path, how we go to lower forms.

This is all there, Isha Upanishad, Chandogya Upanishad.

Chapter 8 of Chandogya Upanishad, we just reached this portion.

Is there another place, Alpana, where this question appears?

Chandogya.

In fact, there the father asked the son, okay, you've learnt everything.

Do you know that one thing knowing which, you know,

So then he goes and gives the Upadesha on Tattvamasi and he repeats it nine times.

Because he doesn't get it from different angles.

This is what you said, Chandogya?

Yeah, Chandogya.

So his Prarabdha or her Prarabdha continues to stay.

That's because again in Chandogya Upanishad, it will say Prarabdha is a released arrow.

The moment the arrow is released, it has to go and reach the target.

You cannot stop it once it is released.

So once that shokam and moham is gone, samsara is gone.

Tarati shokam atma vid iti.

That iti shrute, that comes from again Chandogya Upanishad, 8th chapter.

Narada will go and ask the guru, how will I cross the samsara? Because Narada is again, he knows everything.

This is there in all Vedantic schools.

There's a verse in Chandogya Upanishad.

Why? Our philosophical basis is the Upanishads, the Vedanta schools, Sankhya philosophy.

If you study Sankhya, it doesn't teach Advaita.

But then he tells Arjuna, "Why are you so concerned with this material splendor when it is only a spark of my glory?" Seven chapter, he says, "Mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya." All this material phenomena is like pearls strung upon myself, the invisible thread.

But he said this material reality is just a spark of my glory.

So it's said that mukti-- Chandogya Upanishad now.

It's said the liberated souls can assume form or formlessness according to their desire.

What has been said in thousands of books.

Can you make it shorter? Upanishads say, "Yes, we can." Chandogya Upanishad says, Tat tvam asi.

You are That.

Brihadaranyaka Upanishad says, Aham Brahmasmi.
