We appreciate you taking time to sit down with us.
Byron DuffinHOST

We're in Chalice, Idaho, at the Brown Brothers reunion, and Wesley and his family are here for the music fest, and we ran into him at the, uh, Roadhouse the other night-
Wesley HannaGUEST
4:03
Oh, yeah
Byron DuffinHOST
4:03
... and got to meet him, and what a cool guy, and we asked him if he'd sit down with us.

Byron DuffinHOST
9:34
Yeah
Wesley HannaGUEST
9:34
... not as...
Wesley HannaGUEST
9:34
I w- I will say, it's not as beautiful as Challis, Idaho.
Byron DuffinHOST
9:37
Well, West Texas is a little rugged.
Sara CutlerPANELIST
21:05
Yeah.
Sara CutlerPANELIST
21:05
This is the Ima Mine in Patterson, Idaho, which is pretty close to Challis, northeast-ish part of the state.
Sara CutlerPANELIST
21:11
Um, it's, it's a very small town.
Sara CutlerPANELIST
21:13
One of the folks I spoke to said it's basically n- not even a ghost town.
Byron DuffinHOST
3:58
Hey, welcome to Musical Miles podcast.
Byron DuffinHOST
4:00
We're in Challis, Idaho at the BBR.
George DeVoreGUEST
4:02
We are.
Byron DuffinHOST
4:03
How cool is this place?
George DeVoreGUEST
5:22
... during the summer.
Byron DuffinHOST
5:22
Right.
George DeVoreGUEST
5:23
And then I've been here at every one of them since they moved to Challis.
Byron DuffinHOST
5:27
Wow.
CooneyGUEST
30:08
They, uh...
CooneyGUEST
30:08
No, I've, years ago I, I've been up to Salmon and Challis, Idaho before, and when I was younger, a long time ago, before I joined the service.
CooneyGUEST
30:19
And they, that, that was beautiful country, but man, that, that timber is thick.
speaker_0HOST
30:25
Oh, yeah.
Josh CrutchmerGUEST
9:20
And I think that's also, like, that kind of goes hand-in-hand with the resurgence of vinyl and physical sales right now because, um, you will find that that's something artists can still control.
Josh CrutchmerGUEST
9:34
So, you know, since we're here in, in Chalice at Fawn Brothers, let's take what Cross Canadian Ragweed has done with their Boys From Oklahoma-
Byron DuffinHOST
9:42
Oh, yeah
Josh CrutchmerGUEST
9:42
... live recording.

Byron DuffinHOST

And they turn a town of 800 into 4,000.
Byron DuffinHOST
33:57
Uh-
Josh CrutchmerGUEST
33:57
I actually think that works for, I think one of the things that works for Brawn Brothers is the limitations that Chalice puts on it.
Josh CrutchmerGUEST
34:03
Like-
Byron DuffinHOST
2:38
I'm here with Mr. Joe Miller.
Byron DuffinHOST
2:40
We are at the Brown Brothers reunion in Challis, Idaho.
Byron DuffinHOST
2:43
Welcome.
Joe MillerGUEST
2:44
Thanks for having me, Byron.

41 MINS LATER

Byron DuffinHOST
43:59
Yeah, so anyway, but, uh, cool.
Byron DuffinHOST
44:02
Well, once again, thank you.
Byron DuffinHOST
44:03
We're in Challis, Idaho, at the BBR, and, uh, oh, what a beautiful day it is here in southeast Idaho.
Byron DuffinHOST
44:11
If we don't see you here at the BBR, we'll see you somewhere down the road.
Marcedes CarrollGUEST
12:24
Oh, okay.
Marcedes CarrollGUEST
12:25
Because Braun Brothers Reunion is in Idaho in Chalice every year.
Byron DuffinHOST
12:29
No, we've been multiple times.
Byron DuffinHOST
12:30
Oh,
Bill HodgeHOST
24:00
It's a community that's struggling, I think I would say, so much so that the community would openly embrace the return of an asbestos mine, at least it seems like that's the case, that has literally cut the life expectancy short of the citizens of Libby.
Bill HodgeHOST
24:15
I also think about places like Chalice, Idaho or like Sun Valley, Idaho, the contrast between those two places, you know, like how do we think about finding what are the examples of what's really working? I'm not saying that it's working perfectly in a place like the Flathead or the Bozeman because we have other issues.
Bill HodgeHOST
24:33
We have the affordability crisis, housing, that sort of thing.
Bill HodgeHOST
24:37
But I'm just wondering how we find, like maybe I'm grasping too much here, but How do we find the communities that are examples of what's been figured out, that they've built success around their proximity to amazing landscapes? Am I dreaming too big here?
