I mean, there's been a fair bit of sad news that has happened this week.

Very sad to hear about Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory, passed away this week.

That was, um, that was a really, really sad thing.

And, um, Angry Anderson of Rose Tattoo passed away this week as well.

Well, I was gonna say, I think I can actually, I mean, you know, just to sort of tie into something that happened a couple, like, and literally kinda two days ago as we record this, you know.

Let us move into the real news that we had to talk about on Hyperblasts, and we have to start somberly again, because it's been one of those periods where we've had these before, we've spoken about having these periods before, but particularly the worlds of punk and hardcore.

have been uh struck by a lot of loss in the last handful of of weeks and months even we are still here reeling from the loss of andy williams formerly of every time i die um last week i spoke about uh magnus anderson the drummer from this fear and this week uh another titan really of that whole musical universe did also leave us in chad gilbert the uh guitarist and one of the primary songwriters uh producer extraordinaire even in many cases all this stuff we're gonna wax as much you know lyrically as we can um in just a second but uh of newfound glory chad gilbert passing away after a quite lengthy protracted uh battle with cancer we know that he'd been sick for um a good number of years at this point um but the news that chad left us and passed away is another one of those moments where someone who in their own way right like newfound glory um one of the most beloved bands ever in pop-punk, really, without necessarily being the biggest, right? Like, they weren't a Blink-182, you know, arena festival headline or whatever it may be, but it feels like if you could almost cut to the heart of the entire pop-punk scene and go, what is the band that is the heart of that scene, right? Like, is the flag-carrying musical centre of the universe so much? You Found Glory could be that band, and...

We are talking about someone who really, particularly, you know, Chad being such a musical driving force in Newfound Glory, one of the chief architects of the entirety of what, you know, the following 25 years of pop punk turned out to be.

Yeah, like, I would argue he's one of the most important figures in punk rock in the 21st century.

Even more so than, like... green day you hear more newfound glory in modern pop punk than you do green day it's just like you can't overstate what they did to pop punk and and like by bringing in hardcore elements, by bringing in beatdowns, by, like, making the riffs crunchier and harder while still retaining that pop thing, I would argue he brought hardcore to a new audience.

Like, I was listening to Terror Records when I was 15.

Why? Because Chad Gilbert produced them.
