And then we heard we were originally supposed to be getting a Griffin helicopter from CFP Trenton.

We thought it was going to be a hoist, which Colin and I were both in the helos at different squadrons.

Got delayed, I think two or three times I was on a phone.

I had a sat phone with me and we were talking with RCC in Trenton.

And they were the ones coordinating the helicopters and everybody coming out.

Post-traumatic stress disorder and operational stress injuries became a defining and difficult legacy of that mission, one that Veterans Affairs Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces have spent years, and continue to spend years, working to address.

Every fallen soldier rep- was repatriated to Canada during the mission traveled the same route from CFB Trenton along what has become known as the Highway of Heroes, a stretch of Highway 401 in Ontario, where for over a decade, ordinary Canadians stood on the overpasses in every season and every kind of weather simply to see the procession pass and pay their respects.

No one organized it from the top down.

It became tradition because people showed up week after week, year after year.

I mean, Mike Harris decided there used to be 804 municipalities, and he wanted 402, a- and that's, that's where it happened.

So, but the benefit of it was because, um, the four municipalities, Trenton, uh, Murray, Sydney, and Frankford, the village of Frankford, came together and, and wanted to take control of their destiny versus being an even larger city, which would have included Belleville at the time.

And so what you had in Trenton, where you had the bulk of the population base, they had no more land to grow, but they had the services.

Sydney was the rural community to the immediate east of it.

They had all the land, but didn't have the services.

I was at a very junior position at the time.

Um, but that's what started it, is they saw the mutual benefit by having the land over here, the services here, and then coming together and doing it.

And w- we had the unifying place of CFB Trenton being in the middle, which was a massive revenue generator for, for everybody.

Repairs cost, maintenance pays.

The OPP has released a new unsolved video retracing the final steps of a woman murdered in Trenton twenty-five years ago as the search continues for those responsible.

In early two thousand one, nineteen-year-old Kathleen McVicar moved to Ontario from her hometown of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, to begin a life on her own.

On Wednesday, June thirteenth, two thousand one, at approximately ten PM, Kathleen was seen leaving a friend's house, walking toward Canadian Forces Base, CFB Trenton, where she was living with relatives.

Two days later, her body was discovered in a wooded area on the base near Curtis Road.

She had sustained multiple stab wounds.

And when it finally did get going, it was actually a serious operation.

You had Durham Regional Police, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Metro Toronto Police Marine Unit, a C-130 Hercules aircraft, and a helicopter from the Air-Sea Rescue Unit out of Canadian Forces Base Trenton.

They were all brought in on it.

On top of that, hundreds of volunteers from across southern Ontario came out to walk the shorelines and scan the water.
