FedEx/PSA Heist..a deep dive E408
J

It's not hard to crack cards.
J
19:53Jim BeckettHOST
One out of a thousand you might ding, but they crack those out and then they... gradually release them to CGC, which does huge business in TCGs and is not affiliated.
J
20:06Jim BeckettHOST
Now, I'm hoping that PSA Collector will work with CGC to make sure, because they're the non-affiliated grading that does a lot of CGCs.
J
20:17Jim BeckettHOST
A lot of TCG, too many three-letter abbreviations, to be on the lookout for.
J
20:22Jim BeckettHOST
But again, criminals not being stupid, the Mookie Betts one of one, they need to just sit on that, maybe forever, because that would be a telltale sign.

Right.

Brody, do you think policies change just from this event itself? And not even just with PSA, but maybe even other companies, CGC, maybe even non-grading companies that just ship items that are cards.

If you're willing to go for a PSA slab, especially for modern and some bronze and copper comics.
J
33:53JohnHOST
What do you think the reason for this is? Not to say I don't like the CGC slab, but with the current climate of CGC and all their past faults, I feel that PSA is starting to give them a run for their money.
J
34:04JohnHOST
Looking past the blah label, the comics do present fairly well.
J
34:09JohnHOST
Would love to know what you think.
J
34:27JohnHOST
They're ugly.
J
34:28JohnHOST
They're huge.
J
34:29JohnHOST
They don't fit in your CGC box.
J
34:31JohnHOST
What other reasons?

It's not hard to crack cards.
J
8:15James BeckettHOST
One out of a thousand you might ding, but they crack those out and then they gradually release them to CGC, which does huge business in TCGs and is not affiliated.
J
8:31James BeckettHOST
Now I'm hoping that PSA collectors will work with CGC, but again, criminals not being stupid, the Mookie bets one of one they need to just sit on that maybe forever because that would be a telltale sign and even the very rare charizard they need to sit on those but the run-of-the-mill thousand dollar fungible cards just commodity cards if they run them through cgc after they crack them and send them in waves don't send hey i've got a submission of 6 300 raw cards here that i just found Again, criminals are not stupid.
J
9:08James BeckettHOST
This is a premeditated planned attack and they have to have their end game in mind.
J
9:15James BeckettHOST
And that end game, I think, means 10% of these cards can never see the light of day because it would be incriminating to them.

So, I mean, like they've really sort of moved out of this like, oh, we're going to do, you know, premium stock, whatever, like every set has that now.
A
18:11Adam GellmanHOST
So it's not unique.

Should You Buy Damaged Pokemon Cards? (Pokemon Collecting Q&A!)
T
41:57Team PokeColorsHOST
having a very narrow window of being released and then next thing you know because i mean cosmic eclipse came out in the fall of 2019 and then 2020 started we all know how that went later in the year but earlier that year sword and shield came out with the game and then sword and shell base set dropped you know in the march time frame and then everything was all about sword and shield cards and cosmic eclipse and the sun and moon era kind of got pushed off into the back burners so that's that's a lot of uh info for um those collecting or investing but that's where i'd look uh obviously do your own research don't take my word for truth and have fun while doing it but also you follow my strategies hopefully you can expand your collection to where you want it to be Question number two from Lisa.
T
42:43Team PokeColorsHOST
What do you think of the current grading market, specifically with all the controversy and lawsuits surrounding PSA? Do you think people should still grade with them? Also, what do you think about other grading companies in regards to Pokemon like CGC? Why does PSA go for a premium despite all the issues people have with them? Fantastic question.
T
43:00Team PokeColorsHOST
Perfect timing, too, because literally just yesterday, a fellow sports collector and grader in the space had their PSA submission of over $100,000 plus dollars amount worth of cards stolen from a FedEx truck.
T
43:15Team PokeColorsHOST
It's like every other month there's some PSA scandal going on.
T
44:30Team PokeColorsHOST
And until people realize that there's other grading companies that will sell for more than PSA, you're not going to have that sentiment shift.
T
44:36Team PokeColorsHOST
So as long as PSA is still outperforming on the secondary market, people are still going to go with PSA.
T
44:42Team PokeColorsHOST
And I think also because they have a more loose, well, seemingly loose grading process around what qualifies as a nine or 10 versus CGC and Beckett, you have, you know, CGC 10s and then pristine 10s and then Beckett 10s and black label 10s.
T
44:58Team PokeColorsHOST
QSA doesn't have a better thing than a 10, so that 10 encompasses perfect pristine 10s that meet all of the criteria in terms of a Beckett Black Label and pristine CGC 10, as well as cards that are just above a 9, but they're not quite a 9, so we're going to give them a 10 anyways.
