Certification

If you run a behavioral health organization right now, the biggest gate on your growth is not the payer.

It's a certification.

You pay per facility every year for the right to buy an ad.

A private company, nobody elected, writes the rules.

The seal itself is getting easy to copy.

Today's guest runs the other side of that gate.

She sets the strategy for certification.

This spring, she sat on the ethics panel at the industry's national conference.

So we don't only have, like, a, um, learning experience at DataCamp, but we also have a certification experience.

Um, and that certification experience is actually designed for having, like, an independent objective, like, check of your actual learning on DataCamp.

So you can complete courses, you can do as much as you want, but if you want to have a, um, a, a valid, like, um, test of your skills basically- That's what we design certifications for, and we have, like, very big ones that are focused on roles, like going from, like, data scientist, analyst to AI engineer.

But we also have very small ones, simple ones, like focusing on your SQL skills or your Python skills.

Um, so there's, like, tons of these things for everyone.

Usually, the first part of any certification, or sometimes the only part, is, uh, called, like, a timed exam, and it's very similar to a DataCamp assessment that we also have on the platform.

It's like a, it's, uh, like a series of sometimes multiple choice, sometimes, like, coding questions that are very often focused more on, like, broader knowledge and application of your knowledge, but not necessarily in, like, a real-world environment.

But the way it was applied in, in, in that aspect, they were looking at, because it's a, it's in the utility sector, the, a lot of the times it was more on the, that engineering side where they would, they would have engineers to, to say, "We have a process of installing transformers in all over the country or putting poles, dragging lines, so how are we actually doing it? How much does it cost for us to actually get to there?" So then I did a bit of my research.

I approached the, the gentlemen and the ladies who actually held those certifications who are working in Botswana Power Corporation at, at the moment, and they've made it clear that you can enhance it however you can, however you want, so long as you understand that the framework is meant to be a guide.

Just like any other framework that we have, it has to guide your business to achieve a certain result in the most efficient and less costly way.

So that's how I got into Lean Six Sigma.

So with IT and cybersecurity, the important thing is integrations have to ensure that they feed into different frameworks that govern your organization, whether it's a, you're in the banking industry, in the health industry, whether you're in the IT space, whatever, they all have, they all feed into each other some way, somehow.

Do not rush to get a business up and running without having proper legal documentation, proper policies set up, and ensure that, you know what? I want to achieve, I want to give out this service or this product, and for me to give it out, I need to fulfill the requirements of my Data Protection Act, my cybersecurity frameworks, my, uh, process engineering frameworks, my quality frameworks.

All these ISO certifications work hand in hand.

They are not independent.

Now, we want to take just a quick look at where we've been and, uh, and where we're going.

N- uh, as I said before, 2026 was, uh, dedicated, we called it the Road to Certification, and we're down here at the sixth stop here on, uh, October the 6th.

And today, um, Viraj is gonna speak, uh, first of all on bins and, and sets and, and filters and the like, and Klaus is gonna speak on viz extensions.

But we've only got one more meeting this year, and that meeting, and you'll probably want to put a, circle it on the calendar right now, that meeting's gonna be November the 10th, and that meeting's gonna be devoted primarily to working with, uh, what the viz looks like in the, uh, in the user interface, uh, with that viz.

It's our final session of the year.

Can you believe it? How did it go so fast? I have no idea.
