So understanding all the limitations of an observational analysis, the bottom line is that off-label use of thrombolysis for spontaneous SCI should be considered with caution.

This study echoes what we've discussed with, for example, retinal artery occlusion, where initially thrombolysis had been administered to patients with central retinal artery occlusion or branch retinal artery occlusion largely based on results from randomized trials conducted for cerebral ischemic stroke.

But it wasn't until the trials specifically designed for CRAO were conducted and resulted that we gained a clear understanding of the limitations of thrombolysis and its potential benefit in this condition.
