Cenobite

Tonight, the introduction of Pinhead, the Hell Priest, and his Cenobites.

Quote, explorers of the further reaches of experience, demons to some, angels to others.

Tonight, based on his novella, The Hellbound Heart, Clive Barker's Hellraiser.

And a lot of it is that pop cultural resonance like Freddy, Jason, and etc.

And Pinhead, in this case, is one of those horror villains who visually and conceptually, like, He's not on the screen for very long.

He seems to overwhelm the whole film because, to me, the most interesting parts of the film are the parts with the Cenobites where they appear.

They're visually striking.

they each have their own kind of characteristics,

It's a dude trying to save his partner from...

the realm of the revealer and he's got to fight a revealer cult And then he comes into contact with the Cenobites.

He comes into contact with Doug Bradley, who reprises the role of Pinhead.

And because Pinhead is all deep and gravelly, it doesn't matter that he's an old man now, because he still sounds like Pinhead.

The IP itself.

Then the IP and the interest of the Cenobites.

That's the interest.

So all the perversion, et cetera, and all of that is focused because of the Cenobites and the world that they inhibit and why they are drawn to this.

And that's Saber Interactive, who just a couple of years ago put out Space Marine 2, which was another banger of a game.

That was a great one.

He's on your level.

And now you're coming into the labyrinth right Is the first people are walking but this really showcases how Open the labyrinth of the Cenobites is and how impressive it is that they're doing what they're doing.

And that is because we're looking down this hallway as you come into the labyrinth and it's just open.

Every room is open.

From the real Scarecrow.

Now we're in with an almost fully regenerated lady in the doctor's office where you're going to get this up close and personal look at the doctor.

And he says the doctor is in the doctor's Cinnabon.

And.

just stretching until you broke, yeah.

Much like the Cenobites in this movie.

Coming up next.

We're a couple of filmmakers who are forever students of cinema on an eternal quest to watch more movies.

so that was from the trailer of 1987's Hellraiser.

Here's a logline if you're unfamiliar.

A hedonistic man finds a mysterious puzzle box that summons a group of gruesome beings known as the Cenobites.

These otherworldly entities open up doors to a dominion where pain and pleasure are indivisible.

It's also very campy with, like, the costumes that the...

Cenobites, who are the demons in this story.

They're the demons of pain and pleasure.

So they come and people who seek their play come out and through the box called, I forgot what it's called.

But this story in particular follows a roundabout weird guy named Frank.

He's living in his brother's house when the brother and his new wife move in.

And Frank has called upon the Cenobites to seek their pleasures.

And they do their thing and he's supposed to be gone, but he's not really gone.

I like that.

It's like he's running from his own shadow because what the Cenobites do in Hellraiser is kind of scare and enthrall everyone who sees them as well as the audience.

And I love that there's this like Jekyll and Hyde, you know, another kind of Faustus Frankenstein duality of personalities and reversal type story, that we're doing that here too.

And he becomes the Cenobites, he becomes Julia, he becomes Frank.

It's this incredible revolving door, one man show.

It's an incredibly dense movie that it can be Faustus and Hellraiser and spin all of these plates and all of these characters within the cast of what could be like a black box theater production.

I hadn't.

The Cenobites gave me an experience beyond moments.

Pain and pleasure.

Indivisible.
