When were you up the North?

I was up the North yesterday because I did a gig with Guerrilla Radio in King's Court in Cavan.

Oh, yeah.

And as we all know, in order to get to Cavan, you have to pass through 16 countries.

You have to go through the United Kingdom to get to Cavan.

And I hope Cavan people realise that.

You're not as Irish as you think, right? You might as well be in the North, Cavan.

I'm just going to tell you.

I'm trying to think of anywhere in Ireland place name-wise that like can be a pun on Kansas.

Cavan.

[laughs] Well.

We're not in Cavan anymore.

Before the, uh, green room studio gets, uh, picked up by a twister a- and blown away-

And we absolutely have one of those today, don't we?

Yeah, I didn't think, I feel like I'm becoming the true crime specialist on the pod, like between a murder in Mayo and now a murder charge in Cavan.

And like this, this story is just, it is one of the most tragic you will ever hear in Gaelic Hymns history.

On several levels, it's amongst the most bizarre.

In the aftermath of that All-Ireland, Armagh really developed as a formidable senior force in Ulster.

So we begin to see them getting to Ulster finals in the aftermath of this.

In fact, in 1928, they were in the Ulster final against Cavan and they went pretty close to them.

They start 1929 like a train.

And then obviously the championship run started.

We had Cavan in the first game in Healy Park.

I can't even remember if there was a bit of a crowd there or not.

I genuinely can't.

Put a bit of pride back in the jersey from the last time we had played Kerry, which ended up being a complete nightmare.

show the fans it was it wasn't meant to be like that that day they were still supporting us they still backed us so you're just trying to answer a couple of questions and lo and behold when you get that that sniff on the pits that day that right well how long here we're on we're on point things are falling in our favor here give it a good rattle and sure i know what way it turned out so

I remember you talking to us the day after you won football you did a Zoom call the day or the Sunday morning after whatever it was and sort of talking about what had changed the wee bit for you in 21 and feeling like up until that point you probably hadn't maximised yourself at all in terms of what you were getting out of your county career or, you know, you'd even been probably in and out of teams for a wee while in between and to go from, like, the Cavan performance even and it was like, you know, took off from there.

I shifted

The taxi was provided to take me up and down to Dublin the three days a week.

And then thankfully, I suppose, to sum up on that element of it, I got transferred then to Cavan for my dialysis after 16 weeks.

The first Cavan hospital from here? I can do Cavan in legally 20 minutes, yes.

Legally.

Yeah,

but I suppose I was very lucky then to get to Cavan.
