Cats: The Jellicle Ball

i know um so yeah i guess i consider myself a young christine daye and it informed a little bit of that that's

so funny i actually saw that so young too like a full live production of it it's quite scary it's quite scary yeah the mask is creepy

really creepy and then they auction off the the the creepy thing the monkey thing that oh my god that um that plays that song oh my god And you're like, you want that in your house? That energy?

know.

But I recently saw the best production of Cats, Jellicle Ball on Broadway.

Shout out.

And so I saw three Broadway shows at the same time or while I was there.

And one of the shows I saw was Cats the Jellicle Ball.

And it was the most extraordinary piece of commercial theater I have ever seen.

And it's closing, right? And it closed.

And it was sex, right? Like, they were just oozing sex.

And it was incredible.

And the other thing, which I think Andrew Lloyd Webber should be just so pleased for is, and I've heard others say this, is it's the first time I actually understood Cats.

And I was like, this is what Cats is about? And, of course, for those who don't know, the premise of this version of Cats is it's, you know, black queer ballroom culture overlaid on Cats to tell that story.

And so I was extremely moved and delighted by that show.

And I was actually one of the Tony Norm's snubs that really kind of got to me was Tempress in Cats, not getting a sort of whatever she needed to get, whatever nomination I felt she deserved more than deserved.

so at that show that show is a i'm now remembering what i should have kind of had none of you in front of me that is a special show

of course we all yeah exclude cats but i think that moment is such a great example of that you highlighted is such a great example of what was kind of generally lacking as a moment that is like surprising and fresh and and um and moving and

Well, everything's a risk now, even more so than it ever was.

But, you know, they could be more creatively imaginative than they are for short.

was, am I right in thinking Cats was basically doing good business in terms of the number of seats being occupied, but those seats were not being sold at top price or anything? Is that right? I
