Catherine Ringer

... um, really a personal favorite.

Rip Catherine Ringer, who passed away two weeks ago, something like that.

Um, we'll talk about her maybe.

Catherine Ringer.

Ronges.

Ah, goddammit, Chris.

[laughs]

Um, it's Catherine Ringer.

It'll still have the same impact for me.

But something I learned recently is that Catherine Ringer met Fred Duchenne, her co-host in the band, while doing experimental theater in the 70s.

But it also happened to be the time before the band where she sang for Xenakis, actually.

Wow.

The piece, I think, is Inshima from 1975.

He had already composed it, but he was never... and recorded it, but he was never really satisfied with the vocal performances.

I think it's a piece for two... uh vocalist and five uh instruments uh but he kept complaining that the the vocalists were always too classically trained and he was aiming for a raw sound and his daughter took him to see a play uh by that featured one of her friends which was Catherine Ringer and wow and in that piece she was also singing and Zanac is completely fell out of his chair and said that's exactly the person who should be singing this and unfortunately there's no recording of because she actually not only sang the piece but was kind of workshopped it with Xenakis so he asked for her input in it and everything that's come out every recording that's come out of that piece is either earlier than her or after, but just performed by other people.

And there's only a three-minute excerpt on the IRCAM website.

c'est l'histoire qu'on n'apprend pas non c'est ça souhaites-tu nous partager quelques petites nouvelles de ta idée
