Castlevania: The Adventure

Now, there was a series of Game Boy titles as well that came out, which I don't believe are considered to be part of the official storyline timeline.

But you had Castlevania The Adventure, where you played as Christopher Belmont.

This is all... part of the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which has all the original games.

So Castlevania The Adventure for the Game Boy.

Word of warning, though, that game plays at a very low frame rate.

It was an early Game Boy game, and now I had this game, and I remember just loving it.

I still remember that cover art.

I loved it.

Players would travel through side-scroller levels, collecting sub-weapons like the throwing knives, axes, and the stopwatch to help defeat enemies along with the vampire killer weapon.

The game proved to be a hit, and soon Konami released a follow-up and an entirely new style of gameplay, which was the style of the time in the 80s, that continued Simon's Adventure, or Simon's Quest, if you will, in a third game set long before with Simon's ancestor, Trevor Belmont.

In the years that followed, Castlevania would take players to various time periods, controlling different members of the Belmont clan and those who helped against the scourge of Dracula.

Games fell into the classic style, such as Super Castlevania IV and Bloodlines, the Metroidvania-slash-Ega-vania, starting with Symphony of the Night, the DS games such as Portrait of Ruin, and the 3D adventure-styled games such as the Nintendo 64 duology and Lords of Shadow console games.

where i first learned about it but if i had to guess i would probably assume that i found about castlevania uh back on the day thanks to nintendo power uh when the nintendo 64 days were going on when the when there were the two n64 games that were coming out so i can kind of vaguely remember glancing through articles about the two games uh from different copy or from different like monthly magazines you know just kind of flipping through i was more interested in like the stuff actually coming from nintendo like mario and zelda and that but i do remember seeing pictures of them because when i eventually saw some like gameplay footage um i think it was through the angry video game nerd one of his retrospectives on the series i'm like i recognize this And then I was kind of piecing it together there.

So while it was one of those things, so while I never played any of the games, I did recognize some of the characters and stuff years later.

Eventually, I did get around to playing some of the games from the series, thanks to the virtual console on the Wii, starting with the original NES game and a remake of the Game Boy game, The Adventure Rebirth.

It was one of those things, I think, when the WiiWare system or the WiiWare games were kind of a newer thing.

Um, admittedly, the specific song I was playing at that moment that I asked that I believe was the OC remix song made by Mick Vaff for Castlevania The Adventure, which is like an all-timer.

Mm-hmm.

Anyways, what were you going to say, Bob? I was going to say I was on the console playing it on my TV and having my actually decent speaker set up.

Mm.

And I know you've got Castlevania Adventure coming up and stuff.

This is, like, my level Castlevania for me.

That's a remake of Castlev- Well, that, that would count, too, but it...

G- because, like, you're saying that the 2000 game is also a remake, but that WiiWare game was a remake of Castlevania Adventure, I think.

Okay, yeah.

It says Adventure Rebirth.

Right.

Okay.

And Castlevania Adventure was that in sh- eh, that really early Game Boy game that was pretty good, actually, but- Really slow and very vertical

It's, oh my God, so slow.
