For those that have seen the series, if you see the anime, it's kind of a direct sequel to that one.
H
58:56HansHOST
It's centers around 20 years i think after castlevania 3 which was on the nintendo so it's 20 25 years difference in that one so it's a mainline castlevania game it's pretty basic to all the other metroidvania games you need to find your weapon your upgrades your ways your shortcuts all that kind of stuff but the thing is though in previous castlevania games you get really just walk everywhere you want without too much trouble you needed an ability to get to a certain area that is true but around here there's a lot of platforming which for a castlevania game is in my opinion is pretty weird and by platforming i mean like extreme platforming sometimes it's in my case it's unplayable with a keyboard because I can't change my controls good enough.
H
59:43HansHOST
I have an Azerti keyboard.
H

I guess it's a direct... continuation of four games from their past.
R

It's like Lament of Innocence, Dracula's Curse, and Curse of Darkness.

Episode 550: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse
J
31:40JohnHOST
Um, it is, it is an excellent platforming game, at least as far as what I have played.
J
31:48JohnHOST
Uh, so the basic premise is this game takes place 25 years after, sorry guys, my favorite Castlevania game of all time, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.
J
31:59JohnHOST
I know the more traditional and popular thing to say is Symphony of the Night is the best game, and pound for pound it probably is.
J
32:06JohnHOST
But you cannot deny how absolutely innovative, if you look at how games were operating at the time, how innovative Dracula's Curse was.

I listened to Arthur yesterday, his take.
C
36:35ChrisHOST
And he's like you.
C
36:36ChrisHOST
He's actually, he's a bigger fan of Castlevania III than- Symphony of the Night and he's just like, whatever reason he said on Xbox, he was having tons of input latency.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Review
S
1:49SamNARRATOR
But if you were a longtime fan expecting Belmont's Curse to be a completely faithful revival of the series we played back in the early 2000s, then you will want to think again.
S
2:00SamNARRATOR
This is a different breed of monster you're hunting, both for good and for ill. Belmont's Curse picks up in Paris about 23 years after the events of the NES Famicom classic Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, the game Netflix's original Castlevania series was based on.
S
2:18SamNARRATOR
This time, the Belmont in charge of dishing out pain to the various creatures of the night, including Big Bad Dracula himself, is Rose Belmont.
S
2:27SamNARRATOR
Trevor leaves Rose on her own to get to the bottom of what is going on in Paris, and the story that follows over the next 10 to 15 hours is one that boils down to what fans of Konami's 40-year-old series would expect.

And Lament of Innocence is like the origin story game, at least as far as what's been kept canon.

You know, I like that it's basically a... kind of a sequel to Castlevania III, Dracula's Curse, right? It takes place like two decades after that in the Castlevania timeline and seemingly follows a lot of sort of story elements from that.
H
35:32Hawes BurkhardtHOST
Dracula or Dracula Castlevania 3 on the NES a very good very good very hard game but I remember um when that was coming out and when it came out like just being so impressed that there were multiple playable characters yeah Castlevania game and stuff so anytime that game gets a little reference or a nod I'm a big fan of it because it just it had a huge impact on me as a kid um yeah

yeah so you didn't mention that here but actually if you rewind the clock to about a year ago when we did our castlevania 3 dracula's curse episode you did in fact reveal it there and i think i wrote this down specifically as an episode to do because i wanted to force you to play it down the road um so yeah i i am quite excited to get in here in uh Talk to, I guess I would be excited to talk to anyone who's played Castlevania 4 for the first time in 2026.
M
1:53MattHOST
That is an interesting concept on its own, but to talk to someone who knows about video games, but also like Castlevania 3 is one of your favorites of that era.
M

For Castlevania 3 and 4 alone, it's pretty cool, but also, again, you get Bloodlines, the Sega Genesis-exclusive Castlevania game.
