Castle Howard

Now, we talked a little bit about using York as a base to go out to see more of Yorkshire itself, the county of Yorkshire.

So what would be the top places that you would recommend people to go? Now, if you're going to mention Castle Howard, you know what? I've still not been to Castle Howard.

That's another one that's on my list for next year because I know it's easy to get to.

It is.

I don't know if I could choose the best place, to be honest, because they're all so amazing.

Yeah.

Yeah, if you like stately homes, if you want to see where bits of Bridgeton was filmed or Brideshead revisited, Castle Howard's the place to go.

You can get there by bus in the tourist season.

Derbyshire has Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall and Byron's old place, Newstead Abbey.

Yorkshire has Castle Howard.

Kent has Leeds Castle and Anne Boleyn's old pad, Hever Castle.

But Bedfordshire does have two very fine stately homes.

He seems to be a man who was able to establish good relations with influential people.

I mentioned Lord Wenlock, who was a big supporter of York York cricket club um Lord Morpeth um at Castle Howard was another who um seemed to have respect for Letby and these were people who helped to fund the game uh in Yorkshire at the time his success and uh and these connections I think enhanced the reputation of York cricket and cricketers in the the middle period of the the 19th century um so I think he was in the right place uh at the right time um and um I think really this is why um he's interesting um he's obviously uh has a reputation which has long since been forgotten about, but I think he's worthy of being remembered as just one of those important people who helped to move the game forward off the rough ground and helped to turn it into a national sport.

Highclere Castle is Downton Abbey.

Castle Howard is the home for Bridgerton.

And the cathedral where the royal weddings of Charles and Camilla was recreated on the crown is at York Minster.
