WesHOST
And if you're Jim Nill looking at the roster, and all of a sudden, Matt DeShane hasn't played yet, you got to do something.
MarkHOST
And here you have to look at the positives because, I mean, Jake Ottinger, Casey DeSmith, what more would you want? Yeah.
MarkHOST
And then take a look at this thing that nobody is really talking about that is the elephant in the room is what in the world is going on with Mero Haskin? This is a player that we have not seen before.
MarkHOST
Yeah, I mean, always good.
Marc Antoine GodinHOST
Can I tell a story about completely unrelated? Sure.
Marc Antoine GodinHOST
Because the Canadians were facing the Dallas Stars yesterday, and I had a chat with Casey DeSmith, their backup goalie.
Marc Antoine GodinHOST
And I needed to talk to him about something else entirely, but his trade to Montreal was brought up.
Arpon BasuHOST
Sure.
Marc Antoine GodinHOST
For those who don't remember, so he was part of that trade.
Arpon BasuHOST
Canadian legend, Casey DeSmith, yes.
Marc Antoine GodinHOST
Yeah, so it was part of that three-way trade that brought Eric Carlson from San Jose to Pittsburgh.
Marc Antoine GodinHOST
And the Canadians basically were looking to... clean a bit of their financial mess.
Clay ImooHOST
Horvat and Hughes.
Clay ImooHOST
What's Carson Southie mean? DeSmith.
Clay ImooHOST
Jalen Chatfield.
Clay ImooHOST
Oh, that's a good one.
Todd LewisHOST
But this time we'll move over to New Jersey and Dallas.
Todd LewisHOST
And it is Timo Meier in the Dallas Stars crease with goaltender Casey DeSmith, who is moving to try to stop the shot of Nico Heischer.
Todd LewisHOST
The puck goes by him and gets into the goal.
Todd LewisHOST
So the goal is scored and the Stars challenge.
Joey EricksonHOST
I didn't think it was goaltender interference.
Joey EricksonHOST
I think DeSmith was a touch out of his crease.
Joey EricksonHOST
I know Meyer was in the blue paint.
Joey EricksonHOST
I think he had a foot in the blue paint.
Joey EricksonHOST
They just dominated the Stars.
Joey EricksonHOST
They had them running ragged.
Joey EricksonHOST
DeSmith was...
Joey EricksonHOST
All out of sorts.
Matt RoseHOST
Canadians and Stars.
Matt RoseHOST
We didn't get Hellebuck versus Ottinger because the Stars chose to play Casey to Smith.
Matt RoseHOST
So today we get Fowler and never mind.
Matt RoseHOST
It's Jakob Dobish going against the Dallas Stars.
Marc WilliamsHOST
But you got to like what you saw out of the Devils last night, who absolutely just went in to Dallas and whooped the stars.
Marc WilliamsHOST
However, it was Casey to Smith in that and not Jake Ottinger, who we're going to talk more about later.
Marc WilliamsHOST
Let's move over to the New York Islanders, guys, where the Islanders were in Nashville.
Marc WilliamsHOST
And I clicked on the wrong thing.
49 MINS LATER
Marc WilliamsHOST
I screwed that up.
John FilkowskiHOST
Um, I'm going to go treat.
John FilkowskiHOST
I, and I, again, I look at, I know the devils really put a number on them, but Casey to Smith is a net.
John FilkowskiHOST
I think that's a different game with Ottinger net.
Daniel AmoiaHOST
It almost intrigues me to wonder if Timo would benefit from passing the puck just a little more.
Daniel AmoiaHOST
What I noticed on Heischer's second goal was that it seemed Casey DeSmith kind of overcommitted expecting a shot because whenever Timo Meier has the puck... you have to expect that a shot is coming.
Daniel AmoiaHOST
And in this instance, the shot did not come.
Daniel AmoiaHOST
He was waiting for it.
Adrian DennyHOST
Hellebuck.
Adrian DennyHOST
Allows one goal on 17 shots, going up against Casey DeSmith, the Dallas backup, who's always got really good numbers, but Jake Ottinger, the other star USA goalie, Didn't play tonight.
Adrian DennyHOST
Not a back-to-back.
Adrian DennyHOST
Best numbers in the NHL.
Mike CarverHOST
They're not starting Ottinger.
Mike CarverHOST
They're starting Casey DeSmith, who stinks.
Mike CarverHOST
Kind of like Devils plus 102 here with Hellebuck.
Mike CarverHOST
I think they'll get a good boost with Hellebuck being back there, Doug, for the first time.
