Cascadia reigns.

It's a first for the Timbers, a first for the Pacific Northwest.

Northwest.

Those were the charges covering what prosecutors say he actually did which was write a manifesto, build an arsenal of Molotov cocktails and make payments on a rifle set to arrive the day after his arrest.

He also told acquaintances he intended to behead ICE agents and use the heads to recruit followers for a separatist country called Cascadia.

The District Attorney's office won't explain why the terrorism charges went away.

That manifesto is a reminder that ideology is what turns a grievance into a plan which is roughly the argument playing out in Austin.

For starters, what happens when you have the only one-design boat of its kind on the West Coast, but the regatta is on the other side of the continent? And how do you bring together 11 sailors who have never raced together before with very different sailing backgrounds and turn them into a highly competitive team? And along the way, we'll talk about what transfers from offshore sailing to round the cans, the shift from double-handed to fully crewed sailing, and how you identify and close any skill gaps you might have in a new team.

So to talk about all of that, we have Joy Dalgren and Chris Wolfe from Cascadia Sailing, which is a Pacific Northwest team spanning the US and Canada formed to campaign an IC37 at the inaugural New York Yacht Club International Women's Championship in September 2026.

And then, as you mentioned, some inshore J70 races and J111, J120 races.

Okay, let's talk about creating the Cascadia team for the New York Yacht Club International Women's Championship.

Can you walk us through how a team like this actually comes together and then how that sort of roster takes shape from there?

But, you know, there are some basic differences and the basic differences are not so much regional, I would say, but they are indeed all of the things that come from living far apart outside of cities or close together in cities.

and and it's partly a matter of self-selection who moves where and resorting and all that but it's a matter of a lot of things and it's not just oh yeah they're this and they're this and and it has accelerated as never before and so um uh that's what makes it hard because it's not you know uh but but i don't think for instance why wouldn't you know i mean there's the dreams of cascadia of you know the pacific northwest and and uh you know but Why would Cascadia need to be a separate country from New England and Northeast? It wouldn't.

Nor why would Alabama need to be a different country whatever region, you know, Alabama and Louisiana and the Deep South have a lot in common, as does the Northeast and New England and so forth.

So I think there's, I mean, many people for the last 30 or so, these are the real countries that should exist, and there's five or seven or 12 or whatever they are, could happen, I doubt it.

Uh, I'm from the northwest, near Seattle, Washington.

Um, it's a bio region that I like to call Cascadia.

Okay.

Do you miss it? Are you happy to be in New Zealand?

But to pull the Whitecaps out of Vancouver would really kind of harm the league.

I know we just won the Cascadia Cup, which is a little tournament we kind of run within Cascadia with the Timbers and the Sounders supporters.

So we've got a lot of support from them, and they really see the value of keeping the Whitecaps here.

So it's not just for Vancouver.

So we had over 300 people go down to that game.

That's the highest number of traveling fans since pre-COVID.

So it was great to see people that were willing to go down to support the club, fight for what it means for this Cascadian rivalry.

You know, give us some history of the Vancouver Southsiders.

[dramatic music] Cascadia is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, home to the world's most active volcanoes and quakes.

Since 2004, three major regions of the Pacific Ring of Fire have been hit by quakes greater than magnitude eight.

A fourth region, the Cascadia subduction zone, runs more than six hundred miles along the northwest coast.

The source of all this danger lying underwater of the Pacific Northwest coast is a huge gash in the Earth's crust, a subduction zone.

The Earth's crust is made up of huge plates of rock that are constantly in motion.

I mean, there are guys in the USGS that can't even say, "Hey, we're gagged." But the true nature of it, you have to go to foreign, uh, seismic networks and people who are, uh, geologists and volcanologists to find out what's really going on.

So what I'm talking about is a simultane- simultaneous eruption of volcanoes, the mega quakes.

The one in Cascadia, I did a movie on that, uh, and it's really good.

MeQC pitch here at Lumen Field for another Cascadia derby between your Sounders and the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Vancouver continue to perform at a high level in MLS after losing MLS Cup to Miami in 2025.

They have returned this season with even more punch as they currently sit at the very top of the Western Conference coming into this weekend's games.

Without a point in MLS since May 13th, the Sounders need to get back on track quickly as they are now fighting for a playoff spot.

in these final months of the season.

It's another big Cascadia matchup in Seattle, dating back to 1974.
