Cascade Range

So Mount Shasta sits in Siskiyou County, way up in Northern California, about 60 miles south of the Oregon border.

It's the southern end of the Cascade Range, the same chain of volcanoes as Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens.

It's 14,179 feet tall.

What's odd about it is that it stands alone.

And if you're retired sisters, you're kind of going to be a hermit.

Beautiful views of the Cascade Mountains.

You can go hiking and all this.

And I think they lived that dream for a while, and then one of the spouses might pass away.

47-year-old Richard Lee was last seen on September 9, 2004, when he left his home in King County for a two-day hiking trip in the Wenatchee Okanogan National Forest in Washington State.

Richard was an experienced hiker in the wilderness and planned to explore the Kolchuk Lake area, part of the Cascades.

The area was rugged, but the weather was perfect when Richard set out.

During the two days, he phoned his brother using a cell phone to tell him all was well.

Unfortunately, on October 5, 2020, King County Rescue Team suspended their search after 2,000 hours of searching.

The search involved ground teams, helicopters, drones, and police dogs, but no trace of Brendan or his dog was ever found, and they both remained missing.

Number 9 Alexander Pisch 35-year-old Alexander Pisch of Discovery Bay, California, vanished on October 8, 2020 after setting up an easel for a painting along Diablo Lake in the North Cascades National Park located in Washington state.

Alex was last seen by park visitors near the Colonial Creek Campground on the shores of the lake.

So you're on the eastern side? Yep.

We are the only vet clinic in a county with a population of about 6,000, but with about a 4,500 square mile radius.

Oh, my goodness.

And, you know, we just, we really loved that, the physical space of being there.

We were right in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

Easy trip out to the ocean.

Great for, we did a lot of camping, hiking, biking, trail riding.

And for those that don't know, Washington State is a relatively large, and I was asked by one of my neonatology colleagues to help go to a meet and greet in the southern part of Washington State.

As we flew out from SeaTac and flew across the Cascade Mountains, what dawned on me was that Washington State was relatively large and very different in terms of the location.

And so when we landed, it was really in the middle of a desert.

And the term desert, I could actually look at it in different ways.

She was a Bulgarian immigrant and had been influenced by like, you know, Russian constructivist paintings and that kind of stuff.

And so what you have is almost like a cubist style interpretation, a modernist interpretation of the Cascade Mountain waterfall.

And so it looks great.

But what she also insisted upon is that you descend down from the street and you really get enveloped by the fountain.
