Carson Pickett

Everyone remembers Jenna Nijswanger against the Netherlands, and now she's not really in the U.S. conversation anymore.

You've even seen, you know, NWSL vets like Hayley Mason, Carson Pickett.

We're about to learn a lot about the outside backs in a game like this.

And that is, I think, actually after a trend of the last year where the outside backs have great games sometimes, and then they really struggle sometimes.

The, the thing that I am curious about with this Denver team is when you are up a goal, uh, I just talked, you know, a little earlier about up a goal, down a goal tactics.

When you are up a goal, th- right now they don't have the bench to be able to bring in veteran players off the bench, 'cause Carson Pickett has been excused absence over the last few years.

Or, years.

[laughs] Weeks.

Before we get to that, Matt, take us peak to peak.

Not a lot of After training, in the post-game availability, he was coy on the status of Cameron Bogalski, Allie Brazier, and Carson Pickett.

Kind of deflected and deferred to the medical staff and the individual case-by-case nature of the roster designations on the injury list for excused absence for both Cam and Carson, and then personal reasons for Allie Brazier.

Wish we knew more.

You guys know the picture where he's got the red string connected to everything on the board.

We On the availability report this past weekend for Angel City listed Carson Pickett and Cameron Begalski as excused absences.

This is the first time Denver has used the designation of excused absence this season.

Well, I mean, it's their only season, so ever.

And in the NWSL, before roster freeze and before transfer deadlines, excused absence does somewhat portend maybe a transfer is coming up.

Then someone online was like, oh, Carson Pickett, maybe she's going back to Louisville.

And which I was like, I would hate to see that happen.

But the only reason I could see is if she was returning to the team she spent five years with and Emma Sears was coming here.

Um, I mean, that, that was their secret sauce.

But then, you know, players who've made a difference for them, even if they haven't been super standouts, but I mean, who would you rather have than, you know, a Carson Pickett coming off the bench?

Mm-hmm.

And, uh, forgive me, I cannot for- remember Allie Watts maiden or married name.

I mean, you get to help build the culture and kind of set the tone for the rest of the club's legacy.

And you're able to do it here in Denver with your bestie, Carson Pickett.

I mean, I love that Carson kind of opened the can of worms on you being part of the Denver Summit too, but...

If you look at Carson's socials, you see you.

What did they pi- who did they, whomst did they pick up in return? They lost multiple players in their midfield.

They lost Carson Pickett, they lost Emily Sams.

They lost somebody else whose name I just lost.

But there have been multiple players that have been dispersed to other teams.

Megan Reid is there.

Kaylie Kurtz is there.

Carson Pickett.

Those three alone, no. [laughs] No, thank you.

They got some really good depth.

I mean, Carson Pickett can get in the team right now, and she's a very reliable outside back in this league.

But, you know, being able to bring Flynn off the bench now more often than not, being able to use Kostler as a sub more often than not, this is a team that can start well and finish well because of the depth they have.

And Abby Smith got hurt right after they got rid of their French keeper, but Kat Asman looks like she belongs.

Speaking of missing, I think NWSL missed the mark on this Lauren Holiday Fan Impact Challenge.

A week ago, Carson Pickett was sitting in second place in the fan vote, just behind Bella Bixby.

Then we get announced that, I guess, Izzy Rodriguez from KC Current surged up to the top point and won.

Uh, obviously I'm upset that Carson didn't win.

Like, I don't know how that doesn't win.

It says that Izzy Rodriguez is donating the proceeds to her calls, which is education around Kansas City, which I don't know enough about her work to say that she doesn't deserve it.

I'm sure Kansas City could get smarter, but I feel like Carson Pickett got robbed.
