So because of this, can you kind of provide us with some sort of clinical considerations to help us? Like, what do we use to and referral for nutrition intervention kind of in these situations?
4:16
Yeah, I think it's another great question that we're still trying to define in the literature, but a lot of the approaches we'll use in patients that have low BMIs, we should also use in patients that have high BMIs.
4:28
So you know, a understanding what patients recent caloric intake is and, you know, how much protein are they tolerating? How many calories are they eating per day? What is their micronutrient intake? And then looking at how that's changed over time.
4:45
And I think particularly in patients with obesity who may be pursuing obesity therapies, whether that's medications or procedures to help with weight loss, they may have reduced oral intake.
4:59
They may be eating diets that are not nutritionally balanced, and they may develop really quick weight loss.
5:07
And so even though their BMI at the time is high, let's say their BMI is 35 when they come to see you, their BMI was 40 four weeks ago.
5:16
And so we think of that as like rapid weight loss in a short period of time.

So what obesity treatments may increase the risk of malnutrition and sarcopenia in older patients? And then what are some strategies to help mitigate these risks?
