Carolines on Broadway

All right, this is Adam Carolla Show episode 32 with Mike Birbiglia.

He's appeared on the podcast several more times, including a live show from Caroline's on Broadway with Ira Glass, an infamous live show.

He played before, he'll play in the future again probably.

I've had, I guess, a pretty lucrative career in advertising.

I actually started out, so as you mentioned, I've been a stand-up comedian since I was like 16 years old, and I was lucky enough to land an opportunity at Caroline's on Broadway, most famous comedy club in America, first ever headliner club in America.

I was their director of advertising right out of college.

I'd worked there before.

Probably about 20 years ago when I first started doing stuff in New York.

It would have either been Caroline's or The Cellar.

I'm not sure which one.

I was banned from Caroline's for life.

For what?

And lo and behold, we kept doing that, kept going to New York.

I got an agent at Caroline's on Broadway, Josh Pearl.

He got me an audition for "SNL," and that next year everything started popping.

I'm talking about-

Now, I didn't get a deal.

How that really happened was, uh, I was at Caroline's Comedy Club.

It's in, it's in New York.

It's in Manhattan.

And then I think when it was locked in, I was like, oh, you know, there was a, there was a, you know, there was, this is great.

It was a comedy show at Caroline's on Broadway.

And it was Colin Quinn, Keith Robinson, and Bob Kelly.

That's who was performing.
