Back in October 2023, right when everything was really escalating, she signed on to an open letter to President Biden.

She was in that group with Killer Mike, Caroline Polachek, a bunch of others, basically asking the U.S. to push for an immediate ceasefire.

And I'm going to paraphrase here before more lives were lost.

Then in 2024, she did this big Rolling Stone cover interview and and said she actually explained why this is personal for her.

I know it's a bit abstract and weird but that is something that I am drawn to, especially in mainstream pop music.

You could imagine someone like FKA Twigs or Caroline Polachek doing a version of this and I wouldn't be surprised if they have been inspired by this track for their own work.

This track is all about the sonic atmosphere and the intricate details within the production and sets up the next track perfectly.

Track 5, Skin I think that Candy Perfume Girl and Skin function as a two-part narrative arc of physical longing moving seamlessly from the initial intoxicating spark of attraction into the desperate overwhelming reality of touch.

But at number five, I am going to go with Caroline Polachek's Desire I Want to Turn Into You.

One that I kind of was like, not sure if I was going to put it in my five.

And then today at work, uh, pretty impossible for some reason plays at my job a lot, which not being a single was kind of crazy to me that it would be playing there this far out from when it came out.

think so.

Uh, just truly like was just dropping a song a year and then the rest of the album in, uh, in 23.

And, uh, I just am still kind of balled over by the range that is exhibited here, while all still feeling like quintessentially Caroline Polachek.

A song like Sunset being on the same thing, on the same album, is something as ambitious as Billions.
