M
10:18Mike WhiteHOST
I have a really dumb question for you, because I've never known the answer to this, and you're probably the one person I can trust.
M
10:24Mike WhiteHOST
Is it Carolco or Carolco?
P
10:26Peter M. HoffmanGUEST
You know, the boys never really came up with that name.
P
10:29Peter M. HoffmanGUEST
It was just a name they picked off the shelf in Panama.
P
10:32Peter M. HoffmanGUEST
So who knows? Whoever was the one who set up the name was the one who decided how it was pronounced.
P
10:38Peter M. HoffmanGUEST
I can tell you, we almost always called it the Carolco, but there are other people would say the other way.
P
10:43Peter M. HoffmanGUEST
And honestly, Anni and Mario could care less.
P
10:46Peter M. HoffmanGUEST
They only cared if the money-- if the pictures were doing some business.
Child's Play 2 (w/ DeVaughn Taylor)
P
14:32Patrick HamiltonHOST
It was just like, 'How could you guys do this?' But then my attorney tells me, 'David, let it go.' What he said to me was, 'In the next 24 hours, you're gonna have every studio in town bidding on this property.' And sure enough, all sorts of studios in town started making offers because the first one had done so well." Kirschner was absolutely right.
P
14:54Patrick HamiltonHOST
In the 89 editions of the trades I was able to access, it was reported that Paramount, Warner Brothers, Columbia, 20th Century Fox, Carolco, New Line, Disney, and Universal had all expressed interest in making the next Child's Play film.

And also there was this weird thing with the the studio that released it.
B
28:24Brian SalisburyHOST
So the studio that put it out, New Century Vista, actually declared bankruptcy the same day this movie was released and then was immediately bought by Carolco.
B
28:33Brian SalisburyHOST
And a lot of people involved with the production think that they were secretly involved.
B
28:37Brian SalisburyHOST
already in the process of selling to carol co so it got lost in the shuffle of that as well so again that is why when you try to watch this movie it is potato quality like idaho's finest potato quality and like it's not it's not streaming in hd anywhere or ida watched it there that kind of potato quality which is a shame because this movie was shot by mark irwin Mark Irwin may be the cinematographer of junk food cinema, BTW.

So Arnold Schwarzenegger, he persuaded... carol co who he'd worked with to buy the rights off hemdale and also buy the rights off gail and heard which ended up costing about 17 million dollars so by whenever it was 1990 carol co owned i think almost all of the rights to make the sequel and so it was sort of a done deal Now, in light of that, because it costs so much money to get to the sort of starting blocks, Carolco, whose boss was called Mario Kassar, told James Cameron that in order to recoup his investment, we were just going to make the sequel.
M
7:07Matt BrownHOST
And it would go ahead with or without James Cameron.
