Carol Shields

I really wanted to talk to Julie about it, and I reached out.

She joined me for today's episode of Books That Matter, and the book she chose today was The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields.

Now, this is a book that I have wanted to read for ages, and in some ways I'm kicking myself for not having read it sooner, and in other ways I'm so glad I waited until this exact moment because I loved talking about it with Julie.

The Stone Diaries is one of the best books I've read all year, and getting the chance to talk about the emotional and intellectual prowess of this novel with Julie was such a joy.

So Julie, will you tell us about a book that matters to you?

Yeah.

So, um, the book that matters to me that I wanted to zero in on in this conversation is called The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields, which was published in, I think, 1999, um, and won the Pulitzer Prize.

Was it 1999 or 1993? It kind of s- from a sort of plot perspective, easy and simple to summarize.
