Now, this can be a little confusing on these black bears, but let's go ahead with it.

The order is Carnivora.

These are the animals a- and mammals that have teeth designed to eat meat.

Now, that's where we get a little confused, right? We see black bears eating all kinds of foods and not always a lot of meat in some areas, right? They, uh, they're digging into beehives and wasp hives and, uh, digging up, uh, ground bees and they're, uh, uh, plants.

Uh, out there eating different types of plants and grubs and all kinds of stuff, but they do catch an occasional, uh, animal, right? So black bears are in the order Carnivora, even though they are probably more omnivorous, right? The family is Ursidae.

Now we're getting down to it, right? This is the family of the bears, Ursidae.

Sometimes it's taxonomically based on their morphology.

And so bears are a part of order Carnivora, so they are absolutely carnivores.

And additionally, we classify animals based on behavioral characteristics.

Are they diurnal or nocturnal? We classify animals based on their diet.

I'm sure he won't.

They're Carnivorae, which means in Latin carnivorous or man-eaters or...

And like a bunch of other placental mammals that eat meat like weasels, the mustelids, and dogs, the canines, kitties are in the order Carnivora.

And they're in the cat family, Felidae, whose members have lithe bodies and roundish heads, and except for cheetahs, retractable claws.

They both belong to the suborder Caniformia, the dog-like carnivores, within the order Carnivora.

As members of the Caniformia, it s- sounds like California, huh?
