And longtime Carnival Cruise Director Robbie Howell is calling it a career at sea after a decade.

Howell joined Carnival in 2016 as a junior Fun Squad member before working his way up to Cruise Director on Carnival Conquest.

He currently serves as Cruise Director aboard Carnival Venezia and says leaving the company is entirely his decision as he prepares to start a new chapter of life on land with his wife.

Cruise director Tyler Meehan will take over his spot on Carnival Venezia.

Three ships are set to visit this week.

Two ships are scheduled for Monday, but only Adventure of the Seas is set to stop with what appears to be a cancellation by Carnival Conquest.

Adventures of the Sea can carry up to 3,000 passengers.

Tuesday and Wednesday are free days before Norwegian Prima and Margaritaville at the Sea Islander visits on Thursday.

Carnival Conquest took a slight detour on her current sailing to assist a sailboat in distress on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 26th.

The ship was enjoying a day at sea when the ship received a request for assistance.

Guests on board posted about the incident on Facebook, noting that the ship's captain made an announcement over the public address system to keep guests informed of the search and rescue operation.

The cruise ship came alongside the smaller boat and the single occupant was brought on board Conover Conquest.

As per standard procedure for such rescues, the cruise ship would have recorded the location of the now abandoned sailboat so other vessels in the area are aware of its presence and that it had been abandoned.

On board Carnival Conquest, the rescued individual will be provided with food and medical care as needed.

They will not have free access to the public spaces on the ship and most likely would be debarked at the next port of call.

Carnival Conquest diverted from its course Wednesday afternoon to rescue a sailor in distress in the Caribbean.

A passenger on board tells Cruise News Today the ship received a distress call while sailing towards Grenada and located a blue sailboat with one person on board.

Now, the sailor was brought safely on board Carnival Conquest while the sailboat was left afloat.

Tracking data shows that the ship began its diversion around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, roughly 200 miles south-southeast of St. Croix.

The ship reached the rescue area around 3:00 PM before getting back underway.

It's unclear what caused the sailboat to issue the distress call.
