Nominations remain open through the end of this month for Eureka Springs inaugural Poet Laureate.

This post being established through the combined efforts of the Writers' Colony at Derry Hollow, Emerge Literary Magazine, the Eureka Springs Arts Council, and the Eureka Springs Carnegie Library.

According to a release announcing the title, the Poet Laureate of Eureka Springs is being created to celebrate poetry, place, and community.

The honorary literary position recognizes a poet whose work reflects the spirit and character of Eureka, and the person selected as Poet Laureate will serve a three-year term and receive a $500 stipend.

Nominees do have to reside in Carroll County.

A nomination application plus guidelines and submission requirements are available at the Riders Colony at Derry Hollow.

When the building moved in the 1960s, there was kind of a long line of people formed between the old Carnegie Library and the new building.

So we're kind of hearkening back to that and doing a relay race.
