We continue to see the image of God, this idea, this theme and identity reinforced in the record of Adam's descendants in Genesis chapter 5 and the renewal of God's covenant even after the flood with Noah and his family.

As Carmen Joy Imes puts it in her book, being God's image is our human identity.

It's who we are.

Every human is God's image.

We are kin.

Our identity is firmly linked to our creator.

Carmen Joy Imes again writes, we are who we are because of who God is and who God intended us to be.

We cannot accurately define ourselves without reference to God.

From the outset, from the beginning, I want to be clear that this study notes does not come only from my own ideas.

In preparing it, I have drank deeply from the teachings of Dr. Carmen Joy Imes, available at biblicaltraining.org, as well from the work of Dr. Michael Heiser and Dr. Michael Morales, among other authors.

And whenever we revisit their concepts, I will try to point out that along the way so that you can go straight to the original sources and if you want to study further.

And to start well, we need to talk about how to read this book, and in fact any book of the Bible, in a responsible way.

Like, for example, Israel had come out of slavery.

Because the stories are just so winding, and people are so fallen, and there are few heroes there.

And I'll tell you, someone who gets this, I think more than many other, most, the majority of people I've ever known is Carmen Joy Imes.

She's associate professor of Old Testament at Biola University, author of several books, including Being God's Image, Why Creation Still Matters.
