I'm gonna share who stars in the film.

We'll start [laughs] a bit easier with Glenn Close and Penélope Cruz, Miguel Bernardeau, Julia Torres, Lorenzo Zurzoolo, Antonio de la Torre, Lola Dueñez, Guita Gatellafuente, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, and Natalia de Molina.

[upbeat music] La Bola Negra has been taking the world by storm since Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

It boldly reimagines Federico García Lorca's unfinished play with an extravagant film about Spain's history of political and homophobic persecution that spans three stories and timeframes, revealing unexpected connections as they explore love, sexuality, repression, and the legacy of Spain's past.

In 1937, Sebastian, a musician serving with Franco's forces during the Spanish Civil War, finds himself falling for a young left-wing prisoner.

Five years earlier, Carlos is denied entry into an elite casino after rumors circulate about his sexuality.

Then, in 2017, historian Alberto receives an unexpected inheritance from his estranged grandfather, setting off a confrontation with his mother and opening a door to long-buried family secrets.

Though separated by decades, the three stories gradually reveal surprising connections, with the lives and experiences of these men echoing across generations.

La Bola Negra features Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Julio Torres, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close, and it is in cinemas from October 15th.

Gina and Dimitra, this was one of the films that both Alistair and I saw at MIFF, and Alistair made the very bold proclamation this is the best queer film he has ever seen in his life.

Now, he saw it before me, so the expectations were extremely high.
