Cardboard box

I also use cardboard for those trap-savvy cats.

They recognize a trap, but once you kind of wrap cardboard around it, then it looks like a cardboard box and everybody knows how cats love cardboard boxes.

So I've caught a couple of cats that way as well.

That's a really cool idea too.

We're pretty excited for this episode.

This will be rounding out our cardboard box inventions discussions.

So today we'll be talking about the duplicator.

And before we get to that, let me just give our typical disclaimers.

We love the cardboard box inventions and the duplicator sometimes is my favorite.

I won't say all the time because they're all great, but it's hard not to love the duplicator stories.

There is a Pink Panther-ish Boiler Room performance back in a few years ago.

and she brings on some guests and one of the guests is flow and they do a live performance of cardboard box and it is so good it's like unreal uh that whole that that's a it's a very good video it's like a pink panther is like a back in like like early live performances so she's so awkward and it's like so charming and fun and then flow is like they just come out and they kill it um Who else do I like? The cast of Spring Awakening.

Plain cardboard box, about knee height and perfectly square.

Okay.

It was naturally brown and looked brand new.

My heart's pounding at this point.

But it was hard to tell, as most cardboard boxes look the same.

Right.

[laughs] [upbeat music] Two Ryans in two different studios here to talk about one cardboard box.

You're holding one in your hand right now.

Yeah, I grabbed one, 'cause they're everywhere these days.

For the best specimens to keep growing into lumber.

[gentle music] So if you were to go to one of these pine plantations and look around, you might see trees that are pretty unremarkable, maybe they're crooked or, you know, otherwise not the best specimens, and you can't really envision them becoming a big utility pole, but they're very important to the whole system.

Important to the system because those dinky, crooked trees can still be sold as pulpwood and turned into paper and cardboard boxes.

And they basically make it into a mashed, almost like an oatmeal, and that becomes pulp, and then they roll it out in flat sheets and basically dry it, and it becomes paper.

Yeah, I thought that'll come in handy.

Just the form of something and how maybe I... feel like it might fit in a composition or just the texture or the color and yeah just some things resonate and then once i've painted something once if i don't know like the cardboard boxes i just i've fallen in love with my painting palette even just all those lovely warm browns and oranges and yeah i get caught up in that side of it as well just yeah and it The cardboard feels a little bit like painting outside the lines.

It's a bit looser and scratchier and I can rub parts back and leave bits exposed where some parts of my paintings are a little bit tight and...

Yeah, yeah.

Get caught up with the tiny brushes.

I do.

I want to ask you about those a bit later, those cardboard boxes, because I think it's fascinating.
