Capitol Reef National Park

so I'm brand new to this industry that takes years to build, but I've already got the acting and the voiceover and the comedy training, and I had a revelation with my husband.

So, like, last minute, we're leading up into the 33rd anniversary for us this coming Saturday, and we were supposed to go camping at Capitol Reef, and I s- I told my husband, Mike, "So they have extended training with the Vegas office of the agency." And he's like, "Well, do you wanna go to that instead?" I'm like, "Yes." [laughs] So we canceled the RV plans and did this, like, six-hour drive to Vegas just for one, one day training, like two different workshops, and then we drove back.

I now have a travel hangover.

I'm like, "Oh, my God." Like, "I can't do this anymore." [laughs]

That's gonna be on your first day off the train.

Your second day off the train, you'll hit Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon.

And then your third day, you'll go through, uh, Zion National Park into, uh, Vegas.

That's a good day.

No, it's not.

But the Capitol Reef was an exception, of course, because of the Water Pocket Fold, which formed between 50 and 70 million years ago.

You know, somewhere between then, give or take.

Not 40 million and not 80 million.

They were all of them on extremely popular hiking trails.

A family was stranded overnight at Capitol Reef National Park August 29th and 30th, but they ultimately were able to get back to pavement once the flooding receded.

In July at Black Canyon or the Gunnison National Park, debris flows stranded 21 visitors, all of whom were rescued safely.

Down in the Mojave at Quartzsite, Arizona, not far from the Colorado, two major highways, Interstate 10 and State Route 95, flooded due to monsoon rains and damaged a number of businesses in Quartzsite.

And just one last question, but what trail are you going to go on or what park are you going to?

We're going to Zion and Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef.

Okay.

Is that overnight backpacking, Ian? No, no,

Um, from there we did a trip with that set up with the, the basket and everything, uh, to Utah.

So we went to Zion, Bryce Canyon, Escalante, and Capitol Reef.

Um, And so we did pretty well with that setup, but like I said, every place that we went to, we had to either unstrap the gear on top and put it inside the vehicle or put it inside the Airbnbs or hotels that we were staying in.

So that got a little old after a while.

It's called, that's probably the most epic spot that we've driven to.

It's called Temple of the Sun, which is right outside of Capitol Reef.

Nice.

And as he paced up and down his death row cell, he began to go through his list of victims and decided that it was time to tell the truth.

Bundy confessed to having been responsible for Nancy's disappearance and told prison officials that he had buried her body somewhere in or near the Capitol Reef National Park.

Maintaining the last shred of control he had over his victims, Bundy claimed that he wasn't sure of the exact spot.

While Nancy's family felt like they finally had some answers, they now had to find her body and find out whether Bundy was telling the truth.

Now, it's never been confirmed whether this sighting was of Nancy, and if it was, we don't know for sure that the man with her was Bundy.

If Nancy's disappearance had been made public in the days after she disappeared, this clue may have led them to Nancy and her family would finally have some answers.

The Capitol Reef National Park is over 200 miles away from where Nancy lived in Utah, and Bundy claimed before his passing that Nancy had never been in his car.

Bundy gave multiple different accounts of what happened though, sometimes speaking in third person in order to distance himself from his crimes.

Well, the thing I question about this one, and maybe in the 1930s, because I don't know when every park was designated a park, but there's already so many national parks in Utah, especially very close to this one area.

You have Bryce Canyon right there to kind of the southwest of it, Capitol Reef more to the east of it, and then I think Canyonlands and Arches.

North and Zion a little bit south too.

So basically you're turning this whole entire bottom corner of the state into a national park if you also make this area in between all of them a national park.

a lot of these projects kind of got shelved along the way.

Like, yeah, we got more important things to deal with right now, right? So what happened instead? Pieces of that proposed landscape were protected separately.

So they had a National, uh, Capitol Reef National Monument was created in 37.

It became a national park in 71.
