Capitol Crawl

In 1988, as George H.W. Bush was running for president, he made a campaign promise to sign the ADA or something like it.

Then in March 1990, there was something called the Capitol Crawl because people in Congress were dragging their feet and trying to prevent the ADA from passing because they were afraid of what the regulations would do for businesses, especially small businesses.

And so many of the disabled community came to the Capitol and flopped out of their wheelchairs and crawled up the steps of the Capitol, which changed a lot of minds.

And it was signed into law July 26, 1990.
