Okay, so when you made it up into the Gulf of Maine, which route did you guys take? Did you go Cape Cod Canal, or did you go Great South Channel? We were

like 80 miles from that target.

Way too far out.

That's something you want to consider, especially south of Boston.

We do have a few spots moving toward the Cape Cod Canal where there's still some drought conditions.

So those trees are extra stressed.

And of course, our trees have all the leaves on them.

I hope everybody stays dry as they can this weekend and safe during this incoming Nor'easter.

We'll have much more for you here on the podcast, including a Cape Cod Canal report with AJ Kutz coming up later in the week as that's going to be one of the areas that is likely to at least be fishable no matter how windy it gets here on Cape Cod.

Just to give you a sense of what we're looking at with this wind potential, I would say if you're at the coastline, not just the south shore, southeastern Massachusetts, but the tip of Cape Bantu, you need to prepare for that likelihood for wind gusts over 40 miles per hour.

On the surface, that might not seem all that impressive, but when you have all the leaves on the trees still, that is enough to certainly take down some of our trees, especially in communities where we're a little bit drier, moving down toward the Cape Cod Canal, very dry tree conditions, so they're going to be a little more vulnerable.

We have high tides that are running a little bit above average due to a full moon, so likelihood for some coastal erosion here.

We already have rip current risks increasing today over the next couple of days.

They hurried back and forth as if to make use of the time left them, and fell sharply like stones into the shimmering road of light that led across the water.

Where I live on the Upper Cape, that part of it which lies between the Cape Cod Canal and Orleans, the land heads out directly to the sea, toward the east from the continental west.

Cape Cod Bay lies to the north and Nantucket Sound to the south.

The arm of the Lower Cape turns in the Orleans area and heads up on a north-south axis, the head of it, or hand if you like, curving around so that the sandy barrens in the Provincetown area are oriented in an east-to-west direction again.

On the other hand, the town of Barnstable, on the lower Cape, may have an average summer temperature which is slightly warmer than Provincetown and a colder temperature in winter, since it is that many miles closer to the interior.

I have driven down the coast from Boston several times during snowstorms when an area as close to the Cape as Plymouth was completely covered with snow.

And as I drove south, the storms turned to heavy flakes of wet snow on the near side of the Cape Cod Canal and then to rain as I went on.

The sea's capacity to store up solar energy means that it exercises a moderating influence on the Cape.

I'm your host Kevin Collins back with you for a weekend edition of the podcast and we're going to have our good buddy AJ Kutz from Red Top Sporting Goods joining us in just a moment to give us a full Cape Cod canal report.

We'll also talk about the fishing going on, in particular the bottom fishing in Buzzards Bay.

Every effort is being made to promote an agreement with Canada to build the St. Lawrence waterway.

There are pending before the Congress bills for further development of the Mississippi Basin, for the taking over of the Cape Cod Canal in accordance with a moral obligation which seems to have been incurred during the war, and for the improvement of harbors on both the Pacific and the Atlantic coasts.

While this last should be divested of some of its projects and we must proceed slowly, these bills in general have my approval.

Such works are productive of wealth and in the long run tend to a reduction of the tax burden.

This work along our coast is an important adjunct to our commerce.

It will be carried on together with the further opening up of our harbors as our resources permit.

The Government made an agreement during the war to take over the Cape Cod Canal, under which the owners made valuable concessions.

This pledged faith of the Government ought to be redeemed.

That's kind of cool.

Is there a swell at the entrance to the canal?

Yeah, there's the entrance of the Cape Cod Canal.

They always restrict us to a 10 mile per hour speed limit through here, but we usually bend the rules once we get past the shack here where the canal patrol hangs out.

Dude, I'd love it.

I can remember pulling lobsters out of the Cape Cod Canal on Christmas morning and having fresh lobsters for Christmas dinner.

I do miss it.
