It's the fucking guns, people.

For this week's Sunshine Alert, on September the 10th, a California family was vacationing in Yellowstone National Park up in Wyoming, and while staying in an area of the park named Canyon Village, the family left their beloved dog, Luna, a 10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, in their cabin with a Do Not Disturb sign on the door while they visited an area of the park where dogs are not allowed.

But the cleaning staff dropped the ball and opened that door of their cabin, letting Luna bolt into the woods.

To their credit, the staff spent a couple of hours trying to corral the dog, but Luna was spooked and ended up running even deeper into the woods.

I asked Katie Boucher how hard this rescue was, and she said that Luna was a feral street dog for the first year of her life, so she has the skills to survive on her own, and she wasn't necessarily running to humans for help, which made it long and hard.

Luna escaped on September 10th while vacationing with her family in the Canyon Village area of Yellowstone.

The family had left her in the rented cabin for an outing to Norris Geyser Basin, and after a mishap with the do not disturb sign on the door, housekeeping staff entered the room and Luna slipped out.

Cowboy State Daily's Emma Jane Jackson reports that the dog was last spotted on Friday, and if she isn't caught in a week, search efforts will be suspended, and Luna will be on her own for the winter.

Luna the Jack Russell went missing from her family's rented cabin in the Canyon Village area of the park on September 10th.

Since about September 20th, there's been daily sightings of her, and at this point, the searchers think that they've narrowed down the area where she's sleeping, and they've set a trap that can be, uh, accessed remotely.

Katie Bouchey, who's the animal rescuer organizing the effort, said the best thing for the public to do if they see Luna is to just take a picture of her and report it immediately, either to Katie Bouchey herself or to NPS, and she urged people not to try to get the dog's attention at all.

Because dogs are not allowed there, they left Luna in their rented cabin with a do not disturb sign on the door, and while they were gone, housekeeping made a mistake and opened up the cabin to go do their jobs, and that's when Luna escaped.
