Canine distemper

I thought today we're going to talk about animal disease that is problematic for dogs, but also for a lot of other animals.

And that disease is canine distemper virus.

So now what's canine distemper virus? Canine distemper virus is a baromyxovirus, more specifically a morbillivirus, which means it's closely related to measles virus, to human measles virus.

But it's also closely related to rinderbest virus, which is a virus that used to circulate in cattle but was eradicated a while ago.

Like all baromyxoviruses, this virus has a minus-sense single-strand RNA genome.

So it's not taking up into an endosome, but it's fusing directly at the cell membrane.

A little bit about the history of the virus and maybe I should explain the name first.

So canine distemper virus, the distemper basically means that bodily humors are disturbed and not mixed right.

I think at least one of the senior in one of NGO conservation mentioned to me about the CDV, the canine distemper viruses, that there is one study exploring about there is a baseline from different individuals of tiger in the past.

decades that showing that 42% of populations is, they have a CDV antivirus on them.

So they, they were, have that virus particular moment.

And the symptom is this orientation and also is more hostile relations.

That's also interesting questions.

I need to go and dig deeper on this.

But the change in socio-ecological change, the source of food, and also this problem of zoonotic virus issue, because CDVs came from the dogs that are cutting the plantations and the livestock.
