Candide

Starting off with local news, tonight the University Symphony Orchestra presents its first concert of the academic year at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts.

Conducted by Matthew Shepard and graduate conductors Simon Tiffin and Victor Yip, the symphony orchestra will perform three pieces, including Elligio Opus 53, Tchaikovsky's Symphony Number Four, and the overtune of Broadway's Candide.

The concert begins at 7:30 PM.

And it's very subtle about that kind of thing.

Like there's mentions of Candide in On the Town and West Side Story, but they're very brief.

And like in a TR movie, they take up like eight seconds of time.

Um, and like at one point he meets like Betty and Adolph who were like Betty Comden and Adolph Green, who like, you don't know who they are unless you know who they are.

And when he died, Sondheim said some wild shit about him.

Like what? Yeah, just that he was like overextended and never made good music past Candide.

And it sounds like Leonard was a bit of a dick too.

Leonard, he said something about Sweeney Todd.

And I remember there was a big revival.

I guess it was the mid 70s of Candide on

Broadway.

And

My first question of part two is, if you're in charge of all the schools in Australia, what musical would you put on the school curriculum?

Do you know what I would choose? Candide.

Oh, yes.

Lovely.

She has done musical theater.

She did a production of Candide that played at the Goodman and then the Huntington.

I never got to see it live, but I have seen it.

Video clips of it, it is quite good, although I also think that no one can ever truly make candied work.
