Dave CongaltonHOST
26:46
Hey, Ted.
TedAUDIENCE
26:48
Hey, how you doing? Listen, I just wanted to mention something.
Bryan YatesGUEST
51:07
It is a gravel cycling, road cycling event that starts and ends in Atascadero, in Atascadero's sunken garden.
Bryan YatesGUEST
51:15
It goes all over North County and out towards Cambria, but not all the way out there.
Bryan YatesGUEST
51:21
So basically, we try to hit most of the great farm roads here.
Bryan YatesGUEST
51:26
And it's people who are on bikes that look like road bikes, but they have fatter tires.
Dave CongaltonHOST
29:41
You can find out more about, uh, their lives on the Central Coast.
Dave CongaltonHOST
29:45
Next year will mark 50 years that the Lynn family has been in Cambria.
Dave CongaltonHOST
29:51
Quite impressive.
Dave CongaltonHOST
29:53
You can check out the online bakery, all sorts of snacks and treats and desserts.
Dave CongaltonHOST
31:09
Okay, I get that.
Dave CongaltonHOST
31:11
Believe me, I get that.
Dave CongaltonHOST
31:13
So you hop in the car, you head up, you head over, whatever direction, to Cambria.
Dave CongaltonHOST
31:21
You let the kids run around.
Mara PurlGUEST
2:15
Yes.
Mara PurlGUEST
2:16
We have a very cute, brand-new bookstore in Cambria, Salty Pages.
Dave CongaltonHOST
2:23
I've heard good things about this.
Dave CongaltonHOST
2:23
Right,
Mara PurlGUEST
2:24
yeah.
Mara PurlGUEST
2:25
And then we'll be at the venerable, iconic Coalesce.
Dave CongaltonHOST
2:28
Well, let's back up, talk about Cambria.
Dave CongaltonHOST
2:30
When, where?
John LynnAUDIENCE
33:00
Well, thank you, and I feel the same way.
John LynnAUDIENCE
33:03
Whenever I am driving between San Luis and Cambria, I make it a point to stop in your store in Morro Bay and do whatever I can.
John SpencerGUEST
33:12
We've got some pretty good pies in there, too.
Dave CongaltonHOST
33:16
John Spencer, what's your favorite Lynn's pie?

14 MINS LATER

Justin SlyGUEST
47:22
Yeah, we'll do the Lompoc to Paso tour and stop along the way.
Dave CongaltonHOST
47:29
John Lynn did that for years.
Dave CongaltonHOST
47:31
Coming down to Cambria, to San Luis, up to Paso, back to
John SpencerGUEST
47:35
Cambria.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
59:32
All right, like that last day of the rally when I was just going to be the first to finish, there was one guy that was still rolling.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
59:39
So when he got to Cambria, there's a lot of deer, but with those big yellow Clearwater lights, it was actually fun to watch the deer's reaction to the motorcycle, you know? And it was funny, like...
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
59:51
There was like a little spike buck, a little guy he's run along the road.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
59:55
And then I seen a skunk back out of like a tree.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
60:04
It was actually pretty funny.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
60:06
But the guy that was in front of me, you know, he wouldn't see the deer until the last minute because he's got stalk headlights.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
60:13
So once he got to Cambria, he got a hotel.
Brian HoneycuttGUEST
60:15
So he was on, we had a WhatsApp chat, chat for the whole thing.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
12:42
It certainly is.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
12:44
It was closed for a three-year period because of a series of major slides, Paul's slide and Regent's slide, but it reopened January 14th of this year, and that was the first time in three years to the date that people were able to drive from Cambria to Carmel without interruption.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
13:02
It's called the Scenic Byway, and that designation means, as anybody who's been there will tell you, that people would choose to drive that highway just for the experience of driving it.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
13:12
It's not the shortest route.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
15:11
And that rain concern means that the water makes the earth wet, heavier, and lubricates it.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
15:20
So that's how slides are going to happen on the Big Sur coast.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
15:25
The other concern is that we have the Plaskett and Timber fires, which burned a great deal of vegetation and trees, which ordinarily hold that soil in place, right? So in the 100-mile stretch between Cambria and Carmel, it is the most – it's just a – it's a natural resource.
Kevin DrabinskiGUEST
15:44
It's like a national park status of beauty and something that you just don't see everywhere.
Dave CongaltonHOST
32:03
Are there certain neighborhoods of San Luis Obispo at higher risk? because of the contours of the land?
John LindseyGUEST
32:08
Yeah, I mean, you have orographic enhancement, and we were just talking about during the break, the March of 1995 storm, where we had 8.5 inches at Diablo Canyon while I was working there, but Cambria there on Rocky Butte had over two feet of rainfall, and that was because of the orographic enhancement.
John LindseyGUEST
32:28
Now, to really get in those really small little macro climates in San Luis Obispo proper, you know, rainfall amounts do vary between the airport and Cal Poly, if you ever look at the rain gauges there.
John LindseyGUEST
32:39
Especially, you get quite a bit more rain there in the Santa Lucia, where Cal Poly butts up against the Cuesta, the Santa Lucia Ridge right there.
Dave CongaltonHOST
27:59
It has been, geez, for more than 10 years now.
Dave CongaltonHOST
28:02
We are able to do this every Friday thanks to the support and friendship of the great Lynn family up in Cambria, where next year they will mark 50 years on the Central Coast.
Dave CongaltonHOST
28:15
The family, not the restaurant, the family first came here in 1977.
Dave CongaltonHOST
