Calling All Dawns

Roopa is a Carnatic, I hope I said that right, vocalist, which is South Indian classical music, and she's also a crossover artist who collaborates with jazz and R&B and soul musicians.

She sings for some of the leading South Asian dancers and choreographers, and she was lead vocalist on a track from Christopher Tin's "Calling All Dawns," which won a Grammy in 2011.

When we spoke, she had moved from New York back to San Jose, California, where she grew up.

Her debut album, Roopa in Six Yards, had been out for a little over a year at that time.
