Call of the Wild

Lassie? You know, I honestly don't know.

I will say, one of his more famous trainees was a buck, the St. Bernard in the film Call of the Wild, which starred Clark Gable.

So, yeah, he did have some high-end clients there, so to speak.

But Terry was actually originally supposed to be just a house pet for Spitz and his family.

But the studio executives, when they came to the kennel to meet Buck for Call of the Wild, they were charmed by Terry.

So Spitz trained her for the movies.

But wasn't there always a dog? Were they not going to have a dog?

He was worshiped by the studios, who were addicted to the money he brought in, and he was deeply protected and shielded within Hollywood inner circles.

This King of Hollywood and the rising starlet Loretta finally crossed paths in '35 when they were brought together for Darryl F. Zanuck's Call of the Wild.

Young was just 22 at the time, and Gable was 34 and very publicly married.

What happened next is a story that has shifted greatly in both truth and context over the years.

At some point during the filming of Call of the Wild, Young and Gable allegedly became involved in a romantic affair.

That's how the studios would spin the story anyway when there was no getting out of the truth.

The relationship became sexual, and within a couple of months, Young was undeniably pregnant.
