We are looking at a very Christianized society in spite of the apparent survival of a lot of pre-Christian ideas, characters, stories, motifs that survive into the literature.

Everything is still coming through this Christian lens, as we've mentioned before, and so things like Saints' Days, recognizing the Sunday as the holy day where you're supposed to rest, you know, things like that are still really important, especially for the people who can afford to observe them, which are going to be more of the noble classes.

So we're talking about, of course, the members of the church themselves, who are considered among the neveth, among that noble class.

We're talking about perhaps kings and lords who can afford to be attending church and can afford to have their sins absolved by their local bishop or local priest.
