Cal Grant

So let's look at our public universities.

In California, We have a very generous state funded system of financial aid called the Cal Grant Program.

If a student applies for and they're eligible for a Cal Grant, and this is an entitlement program, which means the state doesn't say, oh, we're only going to give out X number of Cal Grants each year.

And then after that, if you apply after we run out as first come first serve, we're done.

No more Cal Grants.

No, every student who applies and qualifies is guaranteed a Cal Grant.

Regardless of whether or not the state set aside that much money, they just make it up the next year in the budget.

That's how an entitlement works.

I mean, well, that's what transgenderism is, but, but go ahead.

Well, I, I think that's an example, but remember when, uh, the, um, gosh, what's his name? I think his last name was Laura, a con- a, a, a, a congressional or state legislator in California who went after the private colleges, especially the Christian colleges in California like Biola and Cal Baptist and so on, and, um, wanted to pull their access to Cal Grants, which was making an incredible, uh, amount of students, uh, able to attend schools like that.

And what, what stopped his, his attack on these schools, and of course it had to do with the views on gender and sexuality that these schools uphold, that what, uh, uh, you know, stopped that attempt was that it would have such a negative impact on minority students.

He went and visited Cal Baptist, which is an enormous, one of the big Christian, uh, colleges, certainly one of the biggest in California, maybe the biggest.

Hmm

... a, um, Cal Grant GPA certification.

And most counselors do this automatically for every one of their seniors nowadays.

Okay.

They send a computer file that says you have a grade point of a 3.0, which is for Cal Grant A, um, and C, or a 2.7 for Cal Grant B, but that has to be sent by your high school counselor.

So it's always good to check for, with your counselor if they're doing that automatically, or do you have to download the form for, the form for them and they send it individually.

Patty, is the Cal Grant a certain amount that everybody is eligible for, and is it renewable assuming that you meet certain criteria?
