Jane Austen's 1811 novel of romance and sisterhood, Sense and Sensibility, returns to the big screen in a new adaptation starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esme Creed-Miles as chalk-and-cheese siblings Eleanor and Marianne Dashwood.

It's directed by the BAFTA-nominated filmmaker behind Blue Jean, Georgina Oakley, and taking on the role of the sister's mother is our own Katrina Balfe.

Recently, I met up with her to talk about the film.

More than two centuries later, the story of the Dashwood sisters continues to attract new readers and new interpretations.

31 years after Ang Lee's celebrated 1999 film, adapted by and starring Emma Thompson alongside Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman, Sense and Sensibility is returning to the cinema – The new film, directed by Georgia Oakley, stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Katrina Balfe and Fiona Shaw.

In this episode, we want to explore what Sense and Sensibility meant to Austen's original readers, what the novel tells us about women, money, marriage and independence, and why each new generation seeks to rediscover its own sense and sensibility.

So Katrina Balfe is mum, Mrs Dashwood.

And Fiona Shaw, who is the comedy heart of Mrs Jennings.

He did not win Best Director.

And for lead actress, an argument could definitely be made for Katrina Balfe.

Or is it just Balfe? I think it might just be Balfe.

At number seven, Don't Look Up.

It doesn't distract me and maybe it is because I grew up with it, but it is now I do find it interesting when rereading the book and when, you know, this new adaptation, I am excited to see kind of a more age appropriate cast.

Like the fact that Mrs. Dashwood is, you know, played by Katrina Balfe or Claire from Outlander.

I'm real, I think I'm most excited to see her in the role than any of the

others.

She doesn't want to stand for that.

I really can't wait to see in the new movie.

Katrina Balfe do this part, but yeah.

In the book, it also said they were there for six months.

I love her as an actress.

She will be playing Eleanor Dashwood and Katrina Balfe, who plays Claire in Outlander.

She's going to be Mrs. Dashwood.

So the mom, those are probably the only two like really big names attached to it.

I think we've built it up in our minds as like, it's like James Wan's got his hands on the camera and he's doing something cooked with it.

Instead it's just Balfe.

And by the same token, the lion fight in my head was enormous.

Like if you'd asked me, I would have retold that story as like, Idris Elba punches that thing in the face like 20 times.
