Cainan

A reading from the Book of Luke.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove.

And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil.

And he ate nothing during those days.

Eber was the son of Shelah.

Shelah was the son of Cainan.

Cainan was the son of Arphaxad.

Arphaxad was the son of Shem.

Shem was the son of Noah.

In the twenty-ninth jubilee, in the first week, in the beginning thereof, Arpachshad took to himself a wife, and her name was Rasueya, the daughter of Susan, the daughter of Elam.

And she bare him a son in the third year in this week, and he called his name Kainam.

And the son grew, and his father taught him writing.

and he went to seek for himself a place where he might seize for himself a city.

And a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.
