Byron Bay Bluesfest

Moments you don't just remember, but moments you feel every time they come back to you.

For me, one of those happened at Bluesfest in Byron Bay back in 1992.

I was young, wide-eyed, and still trying to figure out what the blues music really meant beyond the records I'd been listening to.

And then Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers walked onto that Bluesfest stage.

They were electric.

A band with a swagger, a swing, and that unmistakable West Coast polish that I love so much.

He had a tone that felt like velvet and voltage, he had phrasing that danced and dipped and stung, and he had a presence that made me lean in because every note sounded like it had been thought about long before it had ever been played.

And that guitarist was Alex Schultz.

And then we jumped to 30 May 93 at the Annandale, again with the Foves headlining.

Then the Byron Bay Festival.

And then we hit...

Oh, it's not until 1995.

And I thought that was really an interesting choice or tattoo is selling AI flash or I went and worked at a music festival a couple of years ago.

it was called the Byron Bay Blues Festival.

Anyway, we were doing tattoos there.

And one of the dudes that I was working with, he was like AI and he was just saying, make me a traditional tattoo flash sheet.

Holy shit, man.

I mean, last time I remember being there was the Byron Bay Festival.

Blues and Roots.

Yes.

Byron Bay Festival.

I remember Michael Franti was on right before we were on.

Just preaching.
