Understand how the process works.

Understand why you get a call sheet every day, and the lunch breaks, and that you have to sit around.

And you may not have any lines, but if you're able to be on set and learn what's going on, whether you go on set as an actor or whether you go on set on the other side of the camera as a PA or a s- you know, whatever you wanna do, you'll get hired.
